    I was in Tokyo – I had just come home from work, turned on NHK news, and the announcer was talking about an accident in New York (with a live feed). Then the second plane hit, and I knew it wasn’t an accident. Stayed up most of the night. Tried to call the States, but the lines got jammed very quickly, and it was impossible to get through. That evening I made a decision to go back into the military.

    Watched that in my Day Room while we did recovery from Company CALFEXs. About 45 days later they were some of the first conventional forces on the ground in Afghanistan (and Kuwait and Qatar).
