As the title states, Active Duty Military Personnel and their Dependents now qualify for a free National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. Qualifying persons include all Active Duty members of the US Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, as well as most members of the US Reserves and National Guard, and their Dependents. This pass covers entrance to Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Services sites that charge entrance fees, as well as standard amenity fees at Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation sites.

This program has apparently been around for a few years, but I only recently heard of it. I take my family to National Parks quite frequently and have used the pass a few times already. Great discount to tae advantage of!

I tried to take my kids to the Paynes Prairie Preserve Natl Park and my active duty ID didn’t get me squat. Had I been a member of the guard or reserves, I would have been G2G.
That’s odd, it’s normally the other way around with Reservists and Guard not getting anything.

A CAC is a CAC (sorta like OCP). Can’t tell from looking at it if AD or a reservist. Just saying.

There was a time when that wasn’t the case, when I joined I got a pink colored ID as a Reservist but by the time I got out they had started to switch everybody over to the green IDs.
Yup, same here. In fact, IIRC, when they first issued the CACs, I think they briefly said “Army Guard” on them or something like that. These days they just say “Army.”
Last year I was going through the entry at Olympic National Park when they saw my DoD window decal, and asked if I had military ID. I presented it, and drove on down the road with a year pass.
They actually do this for retired military as well. I just showed them my retired military id and they gave me a pass that’s good at any park for myself and I believe two guest; or it might be just one guest. Either way its a nice deal…
