Persistent Systems Improves MPU5 Radio – Releases Software Update

January 16th, 2020

PERSISTENT TO RELEASE FIRMWARE VERSION 19.5.3 ADDRESSING DIRECT FEEDBACK FROM THE U.S. ARMY 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION

NEW YORK, NY. – Dec 04, 2019 – Persistent Systems, LLC (“Persistent”) is excited to release Firmware Version 19.5.3 for the MPU5 and Embedded Module. This firmware addresses feedback from a readiness exercise conducted by the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division.

“Thank you to the Rakkasan’s for the in-depth after-action report. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and helps Persistent continue to improve the MPU5 in ways that are most beneficial to the warfighter,” said Eric Stern, Director of Engineering at Persistent.

Firmware Version 19.5.3 contains significant performance improvements specifically intended to benefit dismounted end users.  Improvements include:

• Improved Battery Life: about 3-hours increase in MPU5 runtime on a standard 6.8 Ah battery pack reduces the number of batteries soldiers must carry to support their mission duration. Power consumption improvements also benefit Embedded Module users.

• Improved Audio Quality: new Opus audio codec implementation, delivers crystal clear audio and an 8x reduction in network utilization for voice traffic. Improved audio clarity further reduces the cognitive load on the soldier.

• Rotary Knob implementation: users can now modify Audio Volume or select their Intercom Talk Group via the 8-position knob on the MPU5.

• LED Blackout Mode: users can now disable the status LED to support low-visibility operations.

• Simplified Web Management: Web interface is now streamlined based on the cables currently connected to the radio and displays only relevant settings to the user, improving ease of use and ensuring users are maximizing the capabilities of the MPU5.

• Multicast Firmware Upgrade: firmware upgrades to large MPU5 networks now occur via multicast, enabling a rapid upgrade of a large number of nodes.

• Rapid Configuration Tool: implementation of a tool to help automate the mass configuration of MPU5s. As users continue to create larger networks, rapid configuration becomes even more critical.

“We want to empower warfighters with industry-leading capabilities, and receiving direct user feedback from operational units is extremely beneficial. Their feedback allows us to focus on improving existing capabilities and developing new ones to address capability gaps that can only be discovered in real-world deployments of the network,” Stern added.

Firmware Version 19.5.3 is immediately available. Existing customers will receive an email notification and can download the firmware from the new Persistent Customer Support Portal. All customers are encouraged to upgrade.

New Wipe-Silencer, Slide-Locked Glock Pistol From Hush Puppy Project

January 16th, 2020

The new Model 2 wipe-style suppressor from the Hush Puppy Project weighs 3.7 ozs and is only 3” long yet delivers superb sound reduction thanks to a patent-pending arrangement of sound-dampening “wipes”. The Model 2 will be shown at the upcoming 2020 SHOT Show next week in Las Vegas along with a new slide-locked Glock G19 Gen 5 pistol with a Glock factory threaded barrel and factory suppressor height sights.

The Model 2 is the smallest and lightest silencer ever produced by the Hush Puppy Project. Designed to be shot “wet” for maximum sound reduction, the Model 2 features six wipes held by a patent-pending module that clips the wipes into place.  The fully functional Auxiliary Module allows for added length and wipes for additional suppression or the wipes in the Auxiliary Module allow reloading of the primary module.

Additionally, a new Hush Puppy slide-locked Glock G19 Gen 5 pistol with a Glock factory threaded barrel will be shown for the first time at the SHOT Show. New for 2020, Glock is introducing a threaded-barrel model of their popular G19 Gen 5 and the Hush Puppy Project is offering this pistol with our patented Slide Lock Device to render the pistol a locked breech, manually operated single-shot, eliminating the sound of the slide cycling for the quietest shot possible.

Hush Puppy Project’s sister company, Super Vel Ammunition, will be introducing a recreation of the U.S. Navy SEALs’ Mk 144 Mod 0 9mm subsonic ammunition at the SHOT Show. Super Vel and Hush Puppy can be found at booth 1720 and with their distributor Lipsey’s at booth 11329.

Rheinmetall and Thales Are Teaming in Germany within the Field of Unguided and Guided Rockets

January 16th, 2020

•        This agreement aims to support together the future developments, qualification and production of the 70mm (2.75”) rocket systems for the German market

•        Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH will lead the team towards the German customers

•        Together, the two international groups will propose complementary capabilities for the Tiger MK3 program

Rheinmetall and Thales have signed an agreement to support together the future developments, qualification and production of the 70mm (2.75”) guided and unguided rockets solutions for helicopters as well as potentially other new platforms in Germany.

The Thales 70mm (2.75”) rocket systems are currently operated on UHT Tiger and under certification on Airbus Helicopters H145M. As part of the agreement, Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH will lead the team towards the German customers and use its wide experience as main supplier to the Bundeswehr to ensure the future requirements are met.

The agreement deepens the existing relationship between Thales and Rheinmetall in this field as other members of Rheinmetall Group are working in collaborative integration programs with Thales like on Rheinmetall Canada’s Mission Master UGV.

Together, Rheinmetall and Thales propose important complementary capabilities, especially in the frame of the Tiger MK3 program (guided rocket in “Lock-On-Before-Launch” mode, additional communication between the rocket system and the platform, identification, remote control…)

Torsten Böhm, Senior Vice President ‘Business Development and Sales’, Rheinmetall Waffe Munition:

“The multi-decade experience and quality of the Thales 70mm rockets fit perfectly to Rheinmetall’s activities to provide the users in Germany with the best products. The Thales portfolio in this domain is complementary to the current Rheinmetall technical portfolio. This gives the opportunity to combine forces, but more important gives the user direct access to products, meeting the highest requirements on effectiveness, accuracy and safety. And that is our mission.”

Stéphane Bianchi, director of the Airborne Armament business segment, Thales:

“This strengthening of the collaboration in Germany between Thales and Rheinmetall is good news for both groups. We will provide our expertise with the 70mm (2.75”) rocket systems, which equip already many platforms in the world, and Rheinmetall the knowledge of the German customer. This is a true win-win, at a time when Airbus Helicopters is developing its Tiger MK3 version.”
