They sell both the solid beam designators and wide beam trip-wire illuminator at GSS. They are both good lasers that are heartily constructed, but I think the thing that really sets them apart is that mount. The company didn’t have experience with the military or contracts and was able to whip it up for the Marines in short order. It’s a great mount that does a great job of holding on and, of equal importance, a great job of letting go.

  4. Not a "What's a budget?" SEAL says:

Or for the price of 1 you can get every soldier in the platoon silly string or a Home Depot laser level.

  5. Overpriced joke says:

I agree with “seal” above me, any leveling laser can do the same job for far cheaper.

“I see what you mean” it’s gssgear.com minus the WWW but there’s nothing for sale on the site as of yet. The retail location is 1569 Diamond Springs Rd. in Virginia Beach.

On the note of the laser level: can you find those levels in green? A quick Google search found me a handful of green laser levels, but none that were very affordable. A red laser level is better than nothing, but a green laser can be seen in bright light conditions and will LIGHT UP things that a red laser will just highlight. Me? I would use a standard laser level because I have one in my toolbox and wouldn’t get a lot of use out of it as a trip-wire detector. If, however, I was deploying somewhere that traps are a concern I’d rather have the Z-Bolt model.
