SureFire – UDR Dominator

What do you think of this beast from SureFire? It’s definitely solid and you’ve gotta love the MaxBlast mode which pumps it up to 2400 lumens. The field gauge feature is pretty handy as well. Does anyone have any field experience with it?

UDR

SureFire’s UDR Dominator is a powerful man-portable light, capable of outputting upwards of 2400 lumens of white light, ideal for military, border security, and maritime applications, or any mission where a portable white-light spotlight or searchlight is necessary. Featuring a body constructed of aerospace aluminum which is Mil-Spec hard anodized, the Dominator comes in at just under 12 inches in length and is O-ring and gasket sealed to keep out moisture, dirt, and dust. Users can switch between 8 output levels, with the lowest at 15 lumens. A strobe mode is also included with the Dominator.

The LED emitter on the Dominator is “virtually indestructible”, and is microprocessor regulated to maximize output and runtime. The window is coated and tempered to resist impact and thermal shock while maximizing light transmission. The precision reflector creates an extended-range beam.

A three separate push button head switch allows users to switch between constant-on, momentary-on, or MaxBlast modes, the later of which always delivers the maximum 2400 lumens output on every setting on the 11-position selector ring except for the off/disable position. The UDR Dominator is powered either by an included rechargeable Lithium-ion battery or twelve 123A batteries via the ‘battery magazine’. Users can charge the Dominator using either an included 120 volt wall charger, or 12 volt DC/car charger. A 3-color LED indicator, dubbed the “fuel gauge”, lets users know the current battery level of their Dominator.

Costing 1400 dead presidents, love to see who replies. Having said this, we’ve used the Nitecore TM series with tremendous success.

Zero experience with this light. As mentioned above, the price is….high.
I did find a light which maybe some of the readers may want to try out. Made by Duracell believe it or not. At Costco, for 20 dollars. It is 1000 lumens, has high and low (not sure on the low lumen setting) and a strobe. It is well made, especially at 20 damn dollars. Runs on C batteries and has a unique slide focous. It will light up the world really well for the money. I don’t know much about it, I have one, it works really well, not sure how it will hold up to hard use, but it is worth 20 bucks easy.

The amazon reviews of this flashlight are dismal. You would be gambling that 20 dollars. The Surefire is expensive, but you know it will actually work.

    • SSD says:

Seriously, wtf is wrong with you? That’s like saying that a Cessna can do what an F15 is capable of. If you want to buy cheap shit by all means, go for it. But don’t come in here and piss on everyone’s back telling them it’s rain.

    • PNW_Tree_Octopus says:

You can’t be serious comparing that to the above light? Hey, if it fits your needs then good for you, but there’s no comparison.

      • Jason Roberts says:

Damn. Who said I was comparing the two lights? I was just telling you about this flashlight. Despite the reviews. Yes I know its is not a 1400 dollar Surefire, and for Christ sake I know there is no comparison. Its 20 dollars, compared to 1400. Yes you can be sure there product will be bad ass. Don’t buy it. It is a good truck, throw away light. I wouldnt piss on your back SSD.

2400 lumens with a strobe function! You could probably knock people out with that.

  5. I tried a little test with a few people. I had them close their eyes and I then directed the beam directly at their face from 10 feet away. 2 out of 3 turned their head away, even with their eyes closed. Even at 10 feet all three said they could feel the heat from the beam. It’s pretty awesome 😉

SSD, I think Surefire should send you a demo

I haven’t used this one but I usethe Surefire Hellfighter 4 with 3000 lumens and it does kick a$$. Luckily that was uncle sam’s money.

I personally own the original Beast and original Hellfire.

This UDR is an improvement for the Beast as it is smaller in size and weight, with an increase in brightness and battery efficiency.

The low and medium settings is not efficient but the fuel gauge will be handy when using the rechargeable battery.

With a smaller diameter head, I don’t know if it will be able to throw as far as the larger Beast.

Street price should be below $1,000 and will be a welcome addition to my collection.
