Magpul – PMAG 30 AK/AKM MOE And PMAG 30 AK/AKM GEN M3 Comparison

In Packaging

Earlier this week, we received a new PMAG 30 AK/AKM GEN M3 from Magpul, which prompted us to pull out one of the original PMAG 30 AK/AKM MOE magazines and take a look at the differences.

The major change to the GEN M3 mag is the addition of the Stainless steel rear locking lug and steel-reinforced front lug and spine, compared to the original 30 AK MOE mag which features all polymer construction. As you can imagine, this adds a noticeable bit of weight to the magazine; the Magpul site lists the weight of the GEN M3 at 7.2 oz., and the MOE at 6.5 oz.

The patterning on the polymer body between the magazines is virtually identical, however, and they also both have the same constant curve internal geometry, stainless steel spring, paint pen dot matrix panels, and flared floorplate.

The other major noticable difference is the MOE mag has a reddish-brown follower, while the GEN M3 mag has a bright orange follower. Take note that in every image where both magazines are present, the PMAG 30 AK/AKM MOE is on the left, and the PMAG 30 AK/AKM GEN M3 is on the right.
