SOFIC – SIG MCX 7.62×39

This is the new MCX 7.62×39 from SIG SAUER. Like the MCX itself, this variant was developed for a government customer. Although they are evaluating it now, you’ll be able to get yours commercially beginning Mid-2017 as a full rifle, upper receiver group or as a barrel, bolt and magazine package. As a matter of fact, those are three components you need (besides ammo) to swap out calibers on the MCX. In case you were wondering, that is a C-products 28 round magazine, although when finally available commercially, a different magazine may be included.

Don’t they make one that takes AK mags? Does anyone make 7.62×39 AR mags that work?

    • CapnTroy says:

I wasn’t able to find any that work reliably, including C-products…that’s why I sold my 7.62×39 AR pattern rifle…

I know that CMMG makes the MK-47 that takes AK mags, but I haven’t fired on yet…

    • Boyes.55 says:

Yes, the rifle should be built analogous to.the CMMG Mutant Mk.47 that takes Kalashnikov pattern magazines.

SAN Swissarms (formerly the original swiss SIG, not SIG-Sauer USA) wants to bring the SG55x series to the USA INCLUDING the R models that shoot the M43 cartridge AIUI. Making thus MCX a bit superflous.

C products mags work fantastic. It is not a mag problem it is a rifle problem. I have a POF in 7.62×39. I only use cproducts magazines, no failures to feed, extract or any other kind of issue in 2k plus rounds of wolf/tula ammo.

Dah. If only they pushed up the time frame for the trusts to be the faster way.

  3. Bob says:

Who was the original government customer for the MCX if it has been published? Haven’t seen any releases about big contracts. The biggest order I have heard of was the Met adopting it for ARV, TST and CTSFO along with some 516’s.

  4. Craig says:

    Eww, Franken mags.

  5. Cuvie says:

I don’t really understand the point of a 7.62×39 AR if it doesn’t take AK mags.

    • John says:

I might be picking up an MGI modular AR lower just for this, then pick up the MCX upper and ar15 adapter when funds allow.. screw 7.62×39 AR mags

      • James says:

That’s an excellent Idea! Any of the AR47 type lowers would be as long as they are compatible ( thinking about mag seating depth and bolt carrier clearance).

Another good use of the AR lower compatibility , with full auto being the other.

        • LastChance says:

I was thinking something similar. But cheaper. Like the new PSA KS47 lower maybe. Or that 80% lower that hit the market that takes AK mags.

However, all that said, these mags give you a bolt hold open that AK mags really don’t.
