Win Rip Shears

That’s right. The folks at Rip Shears want to give away set of Rip Shears (black ripper on shears) and a Firefly Ripper (ripper only) with an instructional DVD, brochure and stickers to three lucky SSD readers. In order to enter just tell us (in the comments sections below) how you’d use Rip Shears, at work, play, or wherever. Let your imagination run wild! Bullets are fine for those who are slow typists. The important thing is to enter…and to tell your friends.

We will randomly pick three winners on Monday, 4 April, 2011 at 1200 GMT. Offer void where prohibited. Must be 18 to enter.

The shears look fantastic and would be an awesome addition my EMT pouch. They would beat the pants off of my current medical scissors and it appears that the Rip Shears will go through anything like a hot knife through butter.

  2. I actually wouldn’t do much with them. I’d pass them off to someone at the local volunteer fire dept who can probably get some real use out of them. Of course, I’d take some nifty pictures and write a fun article about them first.

  3. Artiom Kalina says:

They’d be a perfect addition to my car trauma kit.

  4. Anthony V says:

I would keep them in the pocket of my firefighting gear at work. I currently have a regular pair that I’d replace these with. My reasons for carrying besides the emergency medical role for work, I would also use them if I or one of my buddies was ever caught up or tangled in wires in a blacked out smoke filled enviornment during a fire. The fact that my air hose wouldn’t get caught up in it accidentally is a great feature. They should cut right threw it and anything they won’t I have the shears that they are attached to . Also the glow feature is nice to help see them of I accidentally drop them while it’s “lights out”.
    Thank you
    Stay safe

  5. Adam B says:

Add them to a trauma kit, use them for treating injuries underneath slings, straps, belts, etc.

  6. Brian says:

On my bleeder kit (front right of kit), I’d use in the event of friendly/Talib casualties, vehicle escape if necessary but hopefully I’ll just use them for arts and crafts time in theater;)

  7. Nick M says:

Would be a great addition to vehicle trauma kit or even adding them to my stage 2 IFAK-

  8. SEB says:

Need em for my work kit.

  9. Alan says:

Looks like a interesting & well thought-out concept. Would like to get ahold of them to test downrange as a CA Medic.

  10. Whokka says:

I’d use them operating combat helicopters in the medevac role, they can double hat as my restraint cutter and breaker. I use my shears for everything! this makes my great shears even better!!

  11. Bo says:

As an EOD Operator, I use shears to cut through heavy command wires or to gain access to IEDs wrapped in thick layers of tape. Having the razor attached to the shear handle makes this action even faster…and a couple seconds faster can mean life or death.

  12. thomas greaber says:

    any u.k. dealers yet?

  13. Chad says:

These look like a great tool. I would keep them with me daily in my Medical bag that is always on me.

  14. daryl says:

use them at work for the fire dept.

  15. Tom says:

    I would:

    1. Carry them on my person for TCCC use.

    2. Masking tape a set to each seat belt in my RG-31 for easy extraction

    3. Keep a set in my car.

  16. Merlin says:

Would love to win one for my buddy in the Air Force. He’s in a MEDEVAC unit.

    – It’s not always about winning for yourself

  17. SORT PA says:

Work as a medic for a SORT Team. Since we have money and I buy alot of my own kit, I could use the help! Looks pretty useful for quick triage.

  19. Chris M says:

    Enter me please. Thanks!

  20. Gavin Hamilton says:

They Rip Shears look GREAT! and would be a great addition to my med kit on my tac vest!

  21. Phil says:

They look handy for quick access to overwraps, though they might get stolen by my brothers (an EMT and a fire fighter).

  22. John says:

I’d like a pair of these to use at my aid station. Having one available to demonstrate to the SMAJ when he comes by may cause the S4 to loosen their purse strings so I can equip my medics with gear they actually need. Right now we use the benchmade rescue hook, but having this would save time, and eliminate the need for two tools.

  23. Mike says:

I wouldn’t mind a pair someone stolen my other pair.

  24. Nick S says:

I would love a pair to add to my blowout kit. We have a lot of shootings in my patrol district, and you never know when you’ll have to assess a patient, even if medics are on the way.

  25. Dan E says:

I love to get a set of these to put on my vest sheers so I can free up some space where my strap cutters are located. IOTVs just don’t have much real estate

  26. Scott Ramirez says:

    anything

  27. Fred says:

Not too long after the first post, I was repacking my new CLS bag for an FTX this weekend. It would be great to just have one tool in the front pouch rather than figuring out where to put the hook knife and still have quick access.

  28. orlando gomez says:

would be great to have on the job (fire-emt) I carry a BM seatbelt cutter which works great but I have needed shears to start cutting away clothes. This is the best of both worlds. I plan on a few for work, FAK kit and go bag for me and my wife

  29. Flo says:

    Dear Sirs,

to simplify my belt for Fire/EMS work with germany’s capital fire department I would love to ditch my seatbelt cutter in favor of just carrying your rip shears.

    Thank you for this opportunity!
