3D Printed Clothing Comes of Age

The N12 bikini is the world’s first ready-to-wear, completely 3D-printed article of clothing.

That’s a pretty interesting statement. Especially when you consider that the first article of clothing is a bikini. Check it out and consider the possibilities (tactical possibilities).

Manufactured from Nylon 12, the garment is made using the SLS 3D printing process. Shapeways calls this material “white, strong, and flexible”, because its strength allows it to bend without breaking even when printed very thin. With a minimum wall thickness of .7 mm, it is possible to make working springs and almost thread-like connections. Once printed, the garment snaps together like one of those old folded paper models; insert tab A into slot B.

The material is waterproof and is made up of thousands of circular plates connected by thin strings. This makes the garment very flexible.

All the research money went into the material, I’ll betcha.
While the model is probably a very nice girl, she is not really built to be a bikini model. Neat material, but the girl is too flat.

They could always 3D Print some breast implants

Hmmmm. Reminds me of medeival scale maille or chain-maille armor constructn. Let’s see if they can take this tech, shrink down the plates and links, add ballistic bullet proof and FR properties to the material and add next gen camo…to make an integrated form fitting mid-layer garment. On top of that, one could design varying thickness/reinforcements in vital areas, and finally, affix armor plates in key areas… The end result would be a lot less pretty than the above picture…. but instead an awesome piece of future kit. Ok I’ll stop before getting carried away.

I’ll bet the gaps between the plates and strings is just the right size to snag your fuzz… 🙂

The article is a waste of space and time…

She is not fat by any means!

    Tim,

Why do you feel that way?

Aot built to be a bikini model are you kidding? That is unbelievably ignorant!!! She isn’t even flat she has a lot more then most girls i know.
And besides what the hell would be the point of advertising an item if you only have on type of woman doing so. Women come in all different size shapes and colours. Its funny how what these people get out of the article is the model! its not about her its about the clothing that she is modelling. Sorry for the rant but CUMMON.
Love from: A very flat chested womaan. 🙂
