DOD has a standing mandate to reduce the weight of soldiers equipment. DAMPS Smart Boots reduce load strike by 68%.
Come on people let’s do the math and get the load off our soldiers!!! USA
He was part of a SAP. Frog Hoplite. After being tethered to the kit for 90 days x 24 hours a day, the member can shed the pack by pulling the quick release. He then is able to leap 30 feet on average and run like a gazelle. Very hush hush. Shhhhhhh.
There are two guys in this picture. There is another soldier kneeling behind him, facing the other way and the perspective makes it look like his pack is a part of the first soldier’s.
He is a soldier. He serves his country. Not sure why people sit at home or their computers and mock him. He does what he does so you can sit at home, free to do what you want.
There are at least three people in this photograph. One in the foreground kneeling facing to camera left. Second in the midground facing camera right. Third in background sitting with sole of boot visible below right thigh of one in foreground.
Many forget that these guys jumped into northern Iraq by themselves. What they jumped with is all they had. The original plan was to link up with 4th ID as they pushed in from Turkey, but that never happened. In reality, what that soldier is wearing is a basic load. At that time the ALICE pack and LBE was still standard issue for many units. His ruck probably has ammo, water and some MREs along with a poncho and poncho liner to sleep under. This is also when we had to have our protective mask and JLIST/MOPP suit on or available at all times. Fortunately I came in from the south and had a vehicle to carry my gear. People forget that most soldiers at the time had unarmored vehicles, mismatched DCU and BDU uniforms and equipment, and even Vietnam era flak vests instead of body armor.

My back hurts every time I see this photo. We weighed our RTO rucks at 127lbs for a jump. Ugh…
We have come a long way since Nam.
We are more than cannon fodder. Now we are a weapon.

I feel this paratroopers pain every time I see this photo. I also wonder how much he is regretting putting on that snivel gear at this point.
