London Olympics to be Guarded by LRAD

It’s good to see that Olympic security officials are adopting a full continuum of force options from the Long Range Acoustic Device to more lethal solutions more often associated with SWAT teams. According to Fox News, the Olympics will in part be protected by the LRAD system.

It sounds pretty lame, but if you’ve ever been on the other end of this thing it can be quite persuasive. And, it will be backed up by other force options as well Actually, the LRAD has a long history of effectiveness including deployments to deter pirates off the coast of Africa and crowd control during the G20 summit in Pittsburgh.

Wow. First commandeering citizens homes for rooftop mounted missiles and now patrolling the streets with ray-guns. will the oppression of free speech and thought stop here? or is the english islamic migrant community planning an uprising that the government isn’t talking about?

I have been on the “other” end of that unit, across the aisle at the Mock Riot trade show a few years back. It hurt so bad each time he tested it, that I had to aim my Shield light on turbo strobe at him to get it to stop. We achieved a detente after the 1st day, but man, that thing is brutal.

Yep gotta smash them protesting citizens into the ground before they get too vocal! Thanks SS for keeping us up to speed with some of the “force options” to silence them damn little crying grannies!

What, would you rather them shoot them or beat the crap out of them if things get out of hand?

The concern isn’t “open an MG on the crowd vs. LRAD use,” it’s that the level of escalation of force or control is significantly lower than lethal force, and such the justification is much easier to make for the case of LRAD in quelling any dissent; this is how ‘police’ states come into existence. Evidence has shown that tear gas is used on otherwise non-violent protestors and is starting to be a common occurance, for instance. A friend of mine is writing a dissertation on this phenomena of force application, and hopefully it will help those on the ground level of Military Science be aware of this pitfall.
