MagPul Responds to Colorado Governor’s Announcement Regarding Magazine Ban

MagPul has issued a statement regarding Colorado Gov Hickenlooper’s announcement that he will sign gun control legislation into law on Wednesday.

Apparently Gov Hickenlooper has announced that he will sign HB 1224 on Wednesday. We were asked for our reaction, and here is what we said:

We have said all along that based on the legal problems and uncertainties in the bill, as well as general principle, we will have no choice but to leave if the Governor signs this into law. We will start our transition out of the state almost immediately, and we will prioritize moving magazine manufacturing operations first. We expect the first PMAGs to be made outside CO within 30 days of the signing, with the rest to follow in phases. We will likely become a multi-state operation as a result of this move, and not all locations have been selected. We have made some initial contacts and evaluated a list of new potential locations for additional manufacturing and the new company headquarters, and we will begin talks with various state representatives in earnest if the Governor indeed signs this legislation. Although we are agile for a company of our size, it is still a significant footprint, and we will perform this move in a manner that is best for the company and our employees.

It is disappointing to us that money and a social agenda from outside the state have apparently penetrated the American West to control our legislature and Governor, but we feel confident that Colorado residents can still take the state back through recalls, ballot initiatives, and the 2014 election to undo these wrongs against responsible Citizens.

I applaud MagPul for taking this stance. It is refreshing to see that there are still some companies with core principles, and that they are unwilling to compromise them regardless of political pressure.

    MagPul,

Best of luck to you in finding a right-thinking new home. It is unfortunate that good working peoples’ livelihoods have to be adversely affected for literally no meaningful reason, but then again perhaps this will serve as a catalyst to wake people up and get their asses out to vote. The master/servant relationship among our elected *representatives* has taken a very ugly 180 over many years, and it needs to be set back to the way it was intended to be.

The only proper way to do so is to hold these people accountable, and vote them out of office. I submit that unemployment lines are a spectacular venue within which many politicians might gain valuable insight.

  5. ME says:

Thank you Magpul for standing firm.

I only wish I could see the confused pouty faces of those CO legislators who just knew that Magpul was bluffing.

On that note, Texas is a booming place for freedom, guns and business. Especially the good parts, like Round Rock.

    Just sayin’…

Way to go Magpul and Barrett! Milton Florida would be a great place to move one operation, it would have a great financial impact on the community not to mention the people and the sheriff are huge 2nd Amendment supporters

  9. SGT Rock says:

This… “money and a social agenda from outside the state have apparently penetrated the American West to control our legislature and Governor”.

Magpul, I own several of your product and will continue to buy them. In today’s day and age, it is hard to find quality American made products, and yours are both. I feel it important to mention that the Coloradan public has seen the true agenda within their own state government. This appalling travesty must not go unanswered. These weasels that consider themselves representatives of the people, are anything but. I believe a house cleaning, is in order. Start your recalls, and vote every supporter out next year. It is high time we start taking back our states and federal government.
I want to make sure Magpul understands that since they have shown their support, you have earned, countless, life long customers. I wish you the best, in your move, and business ventures. As for Colorado, we got this…!

  11. WR Moore says:

  15. Lou A. says:

It is a shame that Colorado has succumbed to the leftist / statist disease is destroying the fabric of our nation. A shame to lose you Magpul. We applaud your leadership for sticking to your principles and standing up for what is right. You all have sand, thanks for setting the example.

  16. Reggie Hanson SoCal says:

Here Here for MagPul! Here in occupied Kalifornia I see the push to drive business and citizens out becuase of Laws , Regulations and Taxes. This is sad that this State was the example success and prosperity! Now the bottom of the list! God Bless MagPul!

  17. JD "Ruffneck" Cooper says:

Come look into the eastern side of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Plenty of available warehouse/manufacturing sites available at reasonable prices, and lots of willing, hardworking employees.

  18. Ric Dickinson says:

MagPul, if that’s the case I think your doing the right thing. We here in Cedar City Utah would gladly welcome you to our city for production of your products. The city does give incentives for new businesses, and we have a VERY fine industrial area and right next to I-15 for shipping.

  19. Neophyte says:

    MagPul,

Your neighbor to the West is the most Red State you’ll find. Salt Lake City and it’s surrounding cities would love to have you.

  20. John says:

Guess it sucks to have a manufacturing job with Magpul right about now.

“I’ve got this great job, we just bought a house, kids are in school.” . . . . oh, wait.

    • Reverend says:

And that’s part of the reason Magpul worked so hard to prevent this, and let their employees off for the day to go to the capital…

But alas… idjuts in office have a tendency to knee-jerk to their own contentment.
