SOFIC – SureFire

The X400 Ultra with Green laser is coming this summer after unveiling at SHOT Show.

There are numerous advantages to Green lasers. They are easier to pick up and you can see them farther. These are made with near green laser diodes and look much more green with the naked eye. Both SureFire’s Don Alexander and I noticed that it appears more blue under an iPhone or iPad camera.

It also features a 500 lumen Ultra head and remains compatible with all existing switching options. And, even though they integrated the Ultra head, it will still fit in X400 compatible holsters.

The “Ultra” head made the flash-to-bang on this year-long tease worthwhile.

    Green to blue….

    Fluorescence!

Emission and absorption are 2 independent variables especially with free space optics.

I was wondering if it was optical mixing of green light with NIR (which a lot of digital cameras display as a purplish color). I know at least the old green lasers started with an infrared laser and frequency-doubled it to get green. So you’d get green plus purple equals blue? Then again, I’m not a laser guy, so you could probably set me straight 🙂

        You’re way over my head.

I asked a resident laser engineer about the green to blue phenomenon.

He used too many big words that aren’t in my vocabulary. What I posted is about all I gleamed from the water cooler discussion.

Glad to see a green laser. For cops it makes it easier to tell if your partner has his Taser(red laser) or his gun covering down on a suspect.
