Who Else Wanted A Landmaster While Growing Up?

20131124-161254.jpg

The real star of 1977’s apocalyptic adventure, “Damnation Alley” wasn’t George Preppard or Jan-Michael Vincent. No, it was the vehicle, the Landmaster.

Three independent drive sources running from a gasoline power plant. Uses semi truck parts in the drive train. Can operate with the front or rear wheel trinary out of commission. Side and top hatches on the main unit and rear and top on the after section. Full running lights and brake lights for urban street use. External video camera is mounted on the forward pylon located just behind the front top hatch. Could also house the antenna. All pylons are hardened and armored. Can operate in water and will remain sealed when fully submerged. Can float while half full of water.

This vehicle still exists and is being restored by the current owner. It is a bit costly, but hope is high we will see it on the road to conventions. A resin cast 1/48 scale model is available (or was) from Monsters in Motion. I bought one that’s why I know. Very awesome vehicle in a class literally by itself. No other in the world like it. I would love to have one!

  2. Tim Ellwood says:

Loved that cheesy movie, although I wanted the MegaForce vehicles more.
I don’t remember what came 1st, this movie or the RPG “The Marrow Project” They both seemed cut from the same cloth.

I drove by every day on my way to high school in the 80s. Oh the plans I have for it…mean HAD! Sorry I digress. The ultimate boys’ toy, good luck on the rebuild and I would love to see it in all its glory someday.

Yeah, I remember passing it in Hollywood Pass (it was parked in a lot next to a special effects company)…..

I’d love to see it running again

I remember that movie well. One of those childhood memories of awesomeness. Back when surviving a nuclear war was gonna be awesome.

  5. KUTF says:

I’d take one, with the ArkII and Roamer as support vehicles…

  6. Strike-Hold says:

I only watched it to see that vehicle in action.

I loved the movie Damnation Alley when I was a kid. I remember seeing it parked at a Movie Vehicle Fabrication shop on Cahuenga Bl West next to the Hollywood Freeway for about 15 years. I’m glad it finally has a home!

  8. The Governor says:

I used to drive by it on the way to Hollywood all the time. It was parked in an auto shop right next to the freeway. I wish I had it now…I would use it to kill Rick and Michonne.

  9. patrulje says:

Me. The book by Roger Zelazny was interesting. I would take any of the vehicles from Ark2 as well as the cute girl that was on the team.

+1, read the book, wasn’t allowed to see the movie when it was in the theaters. The book (re-released to coincide with the movie) had Landmaster pics in it.

To think usmc has wasted so much time and money on the aaav…

  11. Textanker says:

Interesting side note about Damnation Alley. The child actor who played “Billy” is Jackie Earle Haley, aka “Rorschach”.

And of of course, there’s Airwolf Pilot, Guy who phases himself in Wrath of Khan, and Hannibal.

    Yes, I can use IMDB.

    • Jack Luz says:

      Airwolf — Jan Michae Vincent
Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan — Paul Winfield
      The A-Team – George Peppard

      I hope this helps.

LOVE THAT VEHICLE! I swear the guy who designed the Stryker vehicle watched that show as a kid!

I had the Landmaster photo as my wall paper for YEARS… Dreaming…
