I love it when people tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. Just like we told you was going to happen early last week, the 75th Ranger Regiment was in fact, the first US Army unit to don the Operational Camouflage Uniform during their 30th Anniversary ceremony on Friday, 3 October, 2014.

The transition is happening. Come hell or high water, the Army is going to make this switch. The road may be a little bumpy but I’m glad to see the Army’s leadership making some smart moves by leveraging the RFI issued clothing in OCP to be used until the new variant of the ACU is ready next Summer. I would expect to see additional implementation across the Army to begin soon. I have been told that GEN Odierno, the Chief of Staff of the US Army will make a presentation regarding the new camouflage pattern and updated ACU during AUSA, just a week away.

Now if someone could just teach them how to form a beret properly.
It’s a beret. It’s personal preference
How are their berets not formed properly?
When it’s two-thirds to three-quarters down the side of your face, it’s not formed properly.
Check out the “Marchin’ Up and Down the Square” video for some helpful examples (Eric Idle’s looks pretty good…).
Berets have long been worn this way by Rangers, Paratroopers and SF Soldiers. The beret is one of the few uniform items that a Soldier can still wear with a little bit of individuality.
The Duke and Aldo Ray got it right in The Green Berets…;)
Thanks SSD.
And any other infantry unit I have seen in the US Army.
AR 670-1 states that at a minimum the edge of the beret has to at come down below the top tip of your ear. So actually, most of the guys in that video would not provide “helpful examples” of how to wear a beret if you’re American.
They are tips on how to wear your beret if you are an American hero. My beret may be a different color but I wear it much the same.
Here’s one if you’re American…tip of the ear, but not down to the jaw line.

The Battbaoys have alsways worn their berets liek this..
I’ve an A bag full of it ready to go. I hope my CSM has been to Afghanistan. Otherwise I might have to give him a set before we can wear them. Not that that would bother me much. I’m a team player.
I have to say that, while stealing the black beret from the Rangers years ago was a poor move, the tan looks pretty darn good with OCP.
I’ll say it again; “SUCK IT SHINSEKI!!!”
3.5 yrs left til retirement… I won’t be rushing to MCSS to purchase a crap tone of OCP, until I can offload this ACU garbage. Or I’ll save it for the retirement bonfire
Practically no one in the US Army wears a beret strictly IAW AR670-1. I’ll admit that I never did.
The Aldo Ray picture provided by Rogue is a case in point. According to the Army, the beret is supposed to sit square on the head. Not cocked to the right (as worn).
And if Mr. Ray’s beret was sitting on his head “correctly” it would likely not even touch the top of his right ear – another violation.
I think the Rangers in the picture that SSD provided all look sharp and represent themselves, the Army and DoD admirably.
That’s really what is important.
different subject:
SSD, just out of curiosity, any update on when will the new (darker) boots, T shirts, etc. associated with the scorpion OCP roll out are going to hit the street?
So far even the vendors don’t know.
Thanks for sharing SSD!
As far as the berets and how how they are worn by Units that have earned them…check yourself.

SSD, how much you want to bet, that now the tan beret will go with the “new” OCP uniform that someone in the Puzzle Palace on the Potomac will float the idea to steal the tan beret from the Rangers for regular Army and for the Rangers to return to the black beret.
Don’t give anyone any ideas.
