I see the liquid sunglasses are referred to as “Ballistic”. Is that being applied as a H.S.L.D. marketing term, or, is the HSP product truly ballistic? If so, is there any proof? ESS, Revision, and Smith Optics are all very clear about which products pass which specs and are willing to share the proof.

Liquid’s website ( http://www.liquidpolarized.com/ltd.html ) has a few bullet points that call the shades ‘impact resistant’, ‘ballistic’ and ‘ansi z87.1 (2010)’. Those are three different claims but not one of the bullets references the milspec for impact resistance (US MIL-PRF-31013) –ie the one actually designed to test ballistic resistance.

If they meet ANSI Z87.1 (2010), do they pass both optical clarity and impact resistance? The optical portion is fairly common in the eye wear industry so I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the part of the standard they are tested to.

The reason for nitpicking is the volume of misinformation out in the market place could get someone hurt. If liquid or HSP could comment it would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    R

    Hi Mr Ridel

Saw your question and I got you an answer as fast as I could. The Gasket Frame with the Hellfire Lens has passed ANSI Z87 per a test by ICS Laboratories in Brunswick, OH. It is my understanding that the Titan is currently slotted for testing with this same configuration but it has not actually completed the process. It is also my understanding that the Player in this configuration has been submitted for testing, but at this time, we do not have a conclusive report issued on either.

We have every reason to believe at a minimum, the Titan glasses with Hellfire lenses will pass as well.
