TD’s Carlos Ray pant is designed as a general use range/field pant. It’s made from a cotton/spandex twill fabric, a soft yet rugged fabric which offers a bit of stretch for greater function. These look good.

I wonder what the cotton/spandex mix is. I like how these don’t look TOO technical, but I find some pants (vertx) can be quite hot.

  2. reverend says:

So they’re “Chuck Norris” pants? Because that’s Chuck Norris’ real name “Carlos Ray Norris”

  3. Todd says:

Nice, ill be checking these out. TD has top notch customer service.

  4. kris says:

Wish they had an option for a 36 waist.

  5. Mongo says:

Do they make an option without the Velcro panel? Without going on a rant here….one more top notch product gets the “random act of velcroization”

    • Whitesands says:

Cause if it didn’t have Velcro. Then it would be sold at the GAP, and all of us are too cool to shop at the GAP. Such a viscous circle we find ourselves in

    • Padawan says:

Gratuitous yes, but at least it’s a nifty place to put the Velcro, like a leather jeans label. Just take a seam ripper to it if you don’t want it.

    • Paul says:

There are so many comedic possibilities with a velcro jean label. Violent Little Machine Shop are you listening?

Interesting and not 100+ like most other companies

  7. PLiner says:

OK gang, listen up. I ordered a pair in each color offered( 32 x 30) , figuring I’d give them a go. Here are my initial thoughts on them as I am wearing them as I type this review.

    1. These are made out of very light material. They are not jeans or jean weight material. They are more like dress pants/docker weight material. Actually, I think docker weight is heavier than these. They are almost like pajama/thin sweat pant weight material.

    2. They have a low waistline, they ride on your hips, as in the top of the pant is at the top of your hip bone.

    3. The crotch is high in these pants, expect to feel a little bit snug in the taint area. It looks like you have a wedgie from the rear as the pants go right up your butt crack even though they are not tight and are properly sized.

    4. The pants closure snap is different than most but the real thing worth mentioning is that it feels like you’re going to pull the snap out of the fabric when you unbutton them.

    5. The cut in the leg is spacious, not quiet husky cut but relaxed.

    6. What looks like a small mid thigh pocket on the right leg is actually nothing at all, it’s a fake pocket. It doesn’t open, you can’t put anything in it. I don’t know what purpose it serves. The article mentions 8 rivetd pockets but I only have 7 pockets on my pants. It may be that I have a pair that slipped by the QC as there is an actual pocket on the inside of the pants in this area but it looks like the opening was sewn shut and or sewn incorrectly.

    7. Pocket depth. Front pockets are sort of deep and very wide mouthed but the cut would lead to items falling out of your pockets when seated. The right pocket has the typical smaller coin pocket made out of the same material as the pants but it feels too thin to support anything. The rear pockets are wide mouthed as well but are too shallow to feel secure. I’d expect a wallet would fall out at some point. The two smaller pockets inside each rear pocket is made out of a spandex type material and again feels too flimsy to be useful.

    8. Belt loops are also flimsy feeling as is the velcro panel label. A belt would actually help these pants and is a must if you plan on carrying anything in your pockets.

    9. Cut/quality of the product: it feels like these are not well tailored/made pants, they feel cheaply made/assembled. It feels like the pattern they make these off of is a European/foreign cut and or a poor design, maybe both.

Overall: PASS. These are not worth the asking price, most will be unhappy with this product and or it will not fit them. I have cheap 19.99 tactical pants from another manufacturer that are better built and actually fit like pants should fit than these. If you need a very light weight pant for a hot or humid environment, this would be what I’d call a light weight material. Because of this, they also take up very little space/fold up very small. But given the other issues I have mentioned above, I would warn against buying these pants, especially if you have a gut or are husky/fat/big boned. I am not what one would consider any of those and these pants don’t fit right on me and it’s safe to say they won’t fit someone larger any better.

Same design as the Kuhl pants. Sounds like they dont match up quality wise.

  9. DeW says:

I’ve got to completely agree with PLiner (even got the same size =P). I had hoped to wear these pants for a week before passing judgement, but the pants decided they didn’t want to wait that long before falling apart…

I guess I’ll start off with what I did like about the pants.

-The material is light, soft, and is quite comfortable. It also has some spandex in it to give it a bit of stretch. The cut of the pants is pretty nice and certainly allows you to throw a “Carlos Ray Norris” kick up in the air should you need to.

-The pockets are nice and wide and allowed me to fit my GS5, Protac HL, and knife in my pocket comfortably while walking around and driving (none of my other pants can do that comfortably). I could even access the things in my pocket while sitting too.

-The actual stitching on my pair of pants looked good and was better than I expected after a my initial quick glance over the pants.

That said, I agree with with PLiner’s complaints…

-The crotch is a bit shallow, and the waistline didn’t come up as high as I expected. It reminded me of a pair of skinny jeans I tried on at the store once at the recommendation of my GF (only once, I swear!).

-My right-leg pocket was also sewed shut, which I’m not sure if it was intended to be that way or not (these pants are too casual IMO to have the pocket sewed shut like a nice sport coat or something). I was able to remove the stitches though and open it up.

-Speaking of stitches, it looked like whoever worked on my pants was in a rush because almost all of the stitches had way too much thread leftover and there were shavings of thread all over the pants when I first took them out of the package. I wasn’t sure if Christmas magic was making a little flurry in my house or if it was the pants shedding.

-While I liked the pockets, I did have a few instances where my knife almost fell out of them while sitting in the car.

-After only casual wear a couple times, the rear half of the snap that fastens the front of the pants decided it wanted to be lifelong partners with its front half and left the rear material in the rear-view mirror. Good thing I had a belt to keep it together or that would’ve been pretty awkward going back into the restaurant.

I was surprised at the low level of quality of these pants after being used to much better from TD. At first I thought I just got a bad one and would exchange them for a new pair, but after seeing I’m not the only one, it looks like I’ll be getting a refund.
