Grey Ghost Gear – The Throwback Backpack

The Throwback

After a long wait, the $10,000 er, Throwback Pack is now available from Grey Ghost Gear. Based on the Removable Operator Pack, the Throwback Pack features a body made from a Waxed Canvas material, which is very robust and has inherent water resistant features. The build and material lends itself towards a more ‘low profile’ look when compared to more traditional tactical bags; the bag will also “weather” and build its own character through use.

The main compartment is 550 cubic inches in volume, accessed through a top YYK zipper with two pulls featuring Flatlok cords. This compartment has two pockets on both sides, sized for a water bottle or to organize small items. The front pocket is 300 cubic inches, accessed through vertical zippers on both sides of the pocket; this pocket is lined with loop material to allow the user to customize it with various hook-backed pouches and holsters.

Additional features:

  • Exterior grab handle
  • Dual compression straps
  • Bungee front attachment
  • Leather GGG logo under the handle
  • Hidden front zippered compartment for a wallet, cell phone, or like sized items
  • Available in Black & Olive Drab and Olive Drab & Field Tan; Black and Grey and Black w/ Wolf Grey hardware will soon follow.

    1. If its anything like their other packs it will be awesome.

I’m liking this trend of non-tactical looking packs.

Now that’s what low profile is all about, not just some random tactical pack in hamster greyish with PALS all over it that any 5y olds spots directly in a crowd.

Been on my want list since SHOT show, now I am waiting for the other colors to be released.

Beautiful looking pack that Ghost Gear nailed in terms of “just another pack” but little does anyone contained inside…Apache Gunship!

Does GGG have plans of posting pictures of the other colorways? I’d like to see a picture of the Black and Grey before I commit to Black and OD. What about a Black and Tan? Wait, now I’m thirsty….

I ordered this pack the first day it was available, the main compartment is slightly smaller than the removable operator pack but the difference is minimal, same great quality from GGG, it doesn’t have anything that would make you think its military whatsoever. especially the velcro for tacticool patches on every other pack out there, the absence of molle is nice too. I’m glad there’s a pack out there I can wear at an airport without looking obviously military while still having the quality of a military grade bag

Are these made in the US of A?

    8. GW says:

We just approved another design that is about double the Cubic inches and a ton of cool features. it will be a waxed canvass bag. based on the construction and materials, this bag will be pricy, but not house payment pricey.

When I go out of the country for work and travel, I routinely wear out/break my TNF, Kelty, even snugpak, maybe this will work for me, sure looks nice.

    10. LFJ says:

Would this have enough room to fit a 13 inch laptop?

    11. Riceball says:

Is this thing hydration compatible? I got their e-mail announcing this pack and it seems to suggest that you can put a bladder in it but the site, and this article too, mentions nothing about hydration bladder compatibility. I’m in the market for something to replace my old Blackhawk pack, which I find heavy and uncomfortable no matter how much or how little I have in it and this pack looks be a great candidate, if it can accommodate a hydration bladder like a Source 3L bladder.
