Sneak Peek – Jungle M4 Mag Pouch

Jungle and Vest/chest rigs don’t mix well. You’ve got to go back to a more traditional patrol rig like the old ALICE System. That means you’ll need a belt mounted mag pouch. MRLC Designs has developed this concept for exactly that purpose.  At this point, the materials are still under evaluation, but the basic concept is mostly there.

The Conceptual Jungle Utility Gear Suite (CJUGS) M4 Magazine Pouch is a modernized LC2 pouch that is PALS/MOLLE compatible.

The pouch holds three (3) M4 magazines, incorporates PALS webbing on the sides to facilitate the attachment of grenade pouches, etc. and has a D-Ring to mitigate load when used with the load carriage harness.

In addition, hook and loop closures which can be snagged by “wait-a-minute-vines” or become degraded in the jungle environment have been replaced by repairable side release buckles.

    ALICE rised from the dead?:)

  2. Dev says:

What’s old is new again. That said, have always preferred a belt rig over anything on the chest, and the chicom style AK vests were alright in the jungle.

I’ve been using tyr’s jungle mag pouches on a molle plce style belt for awhile now. I’d be wilong to trade them in for a good 3 mag pouch with buckles and side pals large enough to hold more than a knife pouch. Thus might just do the trick

    • Phil says:

Isn’t the TYR tac Jungle Mag pouch exactly that? hold three with PALS on the side?

      • Dave says:

It’s a single column by 2 rows. Not enough to mount a grenade pouch. I have a tac tailor tourniquet pouch on the side of it and the the flap snags on it since it has a lot of side over hang. The flap is also the length of the pouch making it a bit of pain to pull mags out when it’s open. Then to top it off, it’s also velcro entirely under the flap. It’s not a bad pouch, just this modernized lc2 pouch will probably suit my wants/needs better

If you’re stuck with those pouches for awhile, you might try the HSGI frag pouches, they only take one column of PALS. Not sure they’re made anymore, but you can find them for sale on the interwebz.

I think there is a room for a new water bottle design as well. Something that will hold nalgene bottles, brit water bottles, and USGI water bottles. Make it like the British belt order water bottle pouch with a flap and draw cord design.

Do these guys have a website? I didn’t turn anything up with a quick google search.

  6. Mike says:

The spacing on the PALS webbing is way off on the pouch laying down.

  7. Bill says:

The chest rig used by the NVA seemed to work very well. The chest rig used by the Rhodesians was insanely popular, so much so it has been copied for years. I wore a chest rig in the jungle and it worked great.

  8. Andrew says:

Don’t know what the fastener on the ALICE mag pouches was called but it made for easier one-handed closure than a side-release buckle allowed to rotate on a webbing loop.

    • STEPAN1983 says:

Australians use special type of male side release buckle that has sewable plastic thing instead of webbing so it doesnt rotate.
By the way, how it is made on the prototype pouches – the buckle is attached in very bad way, it can be done much better and almost without rotating

I still prefer a Parol belt (ALICE style laod out). I have been using the first isse MOLLE harness in woodland with 4 Tactical Tailor triple M16/M4 maog pouches with two PALS USSF Canteen pouches with standard 1QTs and severl presure dressing MOLLE pouches for pressue dressings and compass. Works perfect. no butt pack like i carried back in the day, but a patrol pack works perfect with it.

What’re everyone’s preferred methods for getting a belt rig and a ruck to work together?

    • Phil says:

can only be done well if the ruck is of the 3day assault style. heavy stuff you need to fight on belt, lighter stuff in ruck, wear ruck as high as possible on your back. I like to have a buttpack mounted on my back, helps with keeping up the ruck as well. with big extended size rucks, it can’t really be done well.

    • Diddler says:

Wear ruck as high as possible. Adjust LCE suspenders so that pistol belt is high enough that it fits some place between kidney pad of Rick and wear ruck makes contact with back again. There will be a gap someplace where the ruck is not on your back, that’s where you want the pistol belt.

    • SSD says:

Let the LCE hang below the pack.

I find it refreshing to see how we as a combat society have tried to reinvent the wheel and end up in the end going back to what our fore fathers new to be best in most situations. The old tricks are usually the best ones. Glad to see its return. I loved those pouches. All hail the “Duce Gear”.

  12. Bobby Davro says:

British militarynever left belt order there are loads of specialist belt order manufactures in the uk from dragon supplies in Colchester, dixies corner by sennybridge and few others

  13. renaissance marine says:

lots of the old gear was great and didnt need “fixing”. thats why i do most of my tactical gear buying at surplus stores

  14. Evan says:

I’m pretty sure they’ll never come up with a name that’s more of a winner than CJUGS. Instant classic.
