Despite being called “ranger eyes” all over the internet, the proper name for the luminescent markers placed in the back of PCs (Patrol Caps), Helmet Camouflage bands and Packs is “cat eyes”. They just happen to be worn by Rangers, along with others who patrol at night.
Scroll Factory is offering a pre-order for cat eyes in the Ranger Bn shapes. These are Glow-in-the-dark patches with Velcro backing.

That would have been great when I was in switching from BDU’s to ACUs…our Battalion had different shapes for each company and that cat eye tape is a pain to sew….this looks much more promising. May have to get some for my old alice pack.
GREAT idea!
I just put velcro on the back of “Cat’s eye tape” to wear on caps(Don’t ask me why…habit? I dont know…dont have any good answer) and shit, but it curls and peels after a short time.
Will be buying a bunch right now from this place!
with all the things that attached to the helmets these days are they still viable? Or should I say what is old is now new again? this worked really well in the jungle for a little bit and then they would die down.. But this was circa 90-92, I hope they come up with something that last longer..
You actually aren’t going to move a whole lot at night in the jungle.
Ever tried to compass trick? Hang it off your gear with the face open and you get lots of light.
The catch is you have to sew the glow-y bit to the velcro with a square knot and two half-hitches.
This is actually the first time I ever hear of them being referred to as ranger eyes and not cat eyes. I guess I feel fine about that, being that I get most of my info from people in real life.
