I’ve always been curious about the flag in back.
Are they usually equipped with a flag pole?
Otherwise, what’s the point of this instead of a flag patch?

To remind people that as long as you watch the navy seal movie we can expect hollywood to make annually and spend plenty of money on Gucci guns, actually putting yourself in harms way for your nation is entirely optional. Why serve quietly when you can instagram your interpretation of patriotism at the top of your lungs? But really you’d use it like a vs17 panel.

I carried a flag. But it was carried by my grand father during WW2, Korea, and then during my uncles time in Vietnam he carried it. Now come my time in Afghanistan I carried it. Now granted its missing a few stars( Hawaii wasn’t a state neither was Alaska.)but now they are. And I refuse to get a new one. But I do have it framed.

Cdrs can give certificates stating that “this flag was flown/carried on combat operations in Afghanistan/oef etc…” So people would carry them folded up in their plate pocket; later on frame them in their house or give them as gifts. As of late, the new trend is to zip tie it rolled up on their back. For some it’s more or less the same concept as a good luck charm.

I got a few flown by a10s and f15s during cas missions for my wife and family members when i was in afghanistan. Not as cool as doing it myself, I guess, but they delivered a lot more hate and discontent to terry than I did.
I can easily see in multinational mil operations having a flag on your uniform could be cool. But I may be one of the few LE types who think we went a little overboard somewhere patching up our uniforms, decaling our cars, etc. ad infinitum. It isn’t like East Armpit PD needs a reminder what nation they are in, and you shouldn’t have to wear something to prove your love of country.
I didn’t have that issue – my uniform design is mandated by state code and hasn’t changed significantly for decades, except for updated patches 20 years ago.
It is true that you should not have to wear something to prove your love for your country. But, if you want to, then go for it!
