FirstSpear Friday Focus – Tubes Retro Fit Cummerbund

This week’s Friday Focus is on the new and improved Tubes Retro-Fit Cummerbund which now utilizes the popular Overlap Cummerbund platform. It’s an excellent solution for folks who are stuck in a carrier for a few months or years and want to upgrade their system with Tubes and 6/12 before they can transition to a full featured FS plate carrier.

Designed to completely replace the hook/loop front flap closure system on your current armor platform and take advantage of FirstSpear Tubes Rapid Release Technology and ultra light 6/12 platform. The Retro-Fit Cummerbund combines all the features of the Overlap Cummerbund including a super strong elastic back that provides security and comfort. Low profile loop interior for mounting our hook backed Ragnar pockets for radios or extra mags inside of the cummerbund making the user lighter and faster with a slimmer profile. Works with most vests that use a front hook/loop flap and back pass through channel for the cummerbund.

So, one thing to keep in mind with this kit, is that the hook and loop used to mount the cummerbund to the back of the carrier will not always match up with your respective carrier.

For example, the Tyr Tactical carrier that it on currently has its hook and loop setup in an opposite configuration to the cummerbund and I had to jerry rig an adapter to make it work.

It would be nice if you could select which side you want facing inwards, or if an adapter was included with the kit. Otherwise it is an excellent product, and it makes getting in and out of the carrier way easier, especially for armor carriers, as well as in vehicles with limited space.

Adun thanks for the comment. We are now including an adapter that will solve that particular fitting issue.

Awesome! I made mine with adhesive backed velcro from Walmart. It isn’t pretty if you look under the flap, but it worked!

The tubes make a huge difference when you have a SPEAR/BALCS rig that will sometimes open up on you when you try to lift your kangaroo flap.

Is there any chance that an adapter can be picked up from you guys by previous customers?

This remains the best money I ever spent on gear in the last decade.

  3. Oh Adam, you’re such a hoot.

I do miss the spacer mesh inside I have to say, but since I published a video talking about this kit, everyone who’s messaged me after picking one up has absolutely bloody loved it to death. It’s a great gateway drug as well.
