Adam West and fellow US Army veteran Leonard Nimoy, Circa 1966
William Adam West, best known for his role as Batman in the 1960s TV series, passed away from leukemia at age 88 on 9 June 2017.
Adam West was a United States Army veteran, having served two years as a draftee in the 1950s where he served as an announcer and producer in the early days of AFN Television at San Luis Obispo, CA and Fort Monmouth, NJ.
West still has one last turn as Batman left: he’ll voice the character in the animated movie titled Batman vs. Two-Face with William Shatner voicing Two-Face, it’s due out later this year.
West is survived by his wife, six children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Very sad indeed. To me he will always be THE Batman.
Spent many an hour in front of the big ol console TV with manual channel changing dial watching Mr. West as Batman battle all of Gothams bad guys….and girls. RIP Mr. Adam West
RIP Old Chum-I have definitely used some of your dance moves and you sure made climbing buildings look easy!
Spock and Batman
This would have been epic to see:
“Once, he and his friend and co-star Frank Gorshin – who played the villain, The Riddler – were banned from an orgy because they were mimicking the characters they played on television. West said: ‘We walked in and it was an orgy. So I immediately went into the Batman character, and Frank went into the Riddler character…”
