    Lewis and Clark’s winter stop in Astoria, OR at the mouth of the Columbia.

    My unit once did a very cool “terrain walk”/driving tour of the final portion of Lewis and Clark’s trek, from Bend to Astoria, including a visit to Fort Clatsop.

    Shudder to imagine spending a long, wet Oregon coastal winter, huddled in tiny cabins like that with a squad of one’s best buddies. I’m sure it was very aromatic!

    I remember going there as a kid. Fun, informative historical site. I recommend it!
