It wouldn’t be so bad if SHOT stopped allowing non-industry people into the show. Window shoppers/lickers make it damn near impossible to conduct business.
I legit had to tell a guy to leave my booth a couple of years ago. He just stood there and asked me questions for over an hour while real potential customers kept waiting and then leaving. Not sure how NSSF can Police it though.
You’d think with NRA convention show focusing on the general public that SHOT would switch back to a true industry focus. NRA show seems to be when all the big announcements are made now anyway.
Hoping that the new “Pick up your badge in person” for the masses will/is designed to cut down on the tourists.
Yet daily “newspapers” have already been printed declaring: 2019 SHOT Show Shatters Attendance Records”. Which indicates the truth, the NSSF is happy to collect that money, despite what they say to our faces.
It’s incredibly irritating to try to place orders or get catalogs or various things I need to conduct actual business and see all the company reps tied up with idiots who not only aren’t in the industry, but are obviously there to hoover up as much swag as possible.
Never been to SHOT but it sounds a lot like SEMA where I do go for my business.
Tons of stuff to see, tons of potential for marketing and networking with peers and then you have people come through that you know got their pass from friends they have in the biz and they ge into the seminars, get samples and as mentioned, swag.
I know it’s harder to get in for LE and some companies. My agency had to show proof that I had purchasing power and have a letter from the Chief. My buddy who has a small sales/training company would have had to show w2’s, and some other extensive proof of his sales to get a couple guys in. He was trying to help a couple dudes out. He passed on falsifying documents. I doubt all companies get the same scrutiny though.
Shot Show is the worst. No one actually releases anything “new” any more. It’s held at the worst possible time of the year. And it brings some of the worst possible people around to your booth.

He was hired by your competition.

Chris Osman has it right.
