I tried and I tried but I can’t find a single use case for waterproof shorts.
I believe it means they will dry really fast if you get them wet / go swimming, etc.
Then why call it waterproof and not fast drying or something? Watterproof sounds like rainjacket to me. Which is pretty pointless with shorts obviously.
Could be useful for kayaking?
Really? Never been on a boat, in a RHIB, on a rockface, in the bush, sitting on a log and had a wet backside? Guess your sofa is pretty dry…
Is this the same guy who hates waterproof boots too?
The point of staying dry is to stay warm, the point of shorts is to stay cool. The last thing I want is to wrap my junk in Gore-Tex in a hot summer day.
I utilised the Callan Shorts as bowman, during an Autumn night (15°C), bay (50nmi) traverse. I was also wearing a Mustang Taku Waterproof Jacket. Hood on, neoprene cuffs tight and the Callan Shorts cinched, they kept my head, torso and groin dry. Protect your vitals.

Hi Folks,
Jumping in from Mustang Survival – These were designed for paddlers wanting to keep their backsides dry sitting for long trips or when bibs or pants were too much/ to warm.
They are fully seam sealed and reinforced in the backside – so if you’re sitting in a Kayak fishing all day or paddling all day – you’ll keep your vitals comfy!
There is a cinch at the leg – to stop water going up inside the shorts – great for sailing or again longer paddling days.
The Marine Spec is lightweight, and has 3-way stretch so the shorts are comfortable , move with you and not hot to wear on warm days either.
Hope that helps.
I wear them when I”m going to get splashed a lot or rained on when it’s too warm for waterproof pants, but not crazy hot. It’s nice not having a wet butt &/or twig & berries making you colder than it actually is. When it’s crazy hot I just wear something quick dry like TD Neptune shorts. The Callan shorts were great for trophy Rockfish season in MD.
