Do they know that you can just loop the string over another stake or a stick or basically anything that fits in your hand and use that to pull? Seems like a solution looking for a problem. Also, its extra weight that a serious backpacker wouldn’t carry, so very strange direction for a multitool.
The hook is just one tool and it’s not a terribly heavy part of the package. It’s overall pretty light for a multitool (less than half of the weight of the popular Leatherman Wave) and has the features that most people want out of a multitool in the woods.
