KomandoStore’s Eighty Four line takes what old and makes it new by recreating classic designs with updated materials and features. The flagship of this effort is the Pattern 84 Chest Rig which has just been updated to its 2.0 configuration.
They started with the classic South African 83 pattern rig and introduced new materials like Cordura, Velcro, nylon webbing, and plastic SR buckles. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
In addition to laser cut PALS webbing at the sides, the P84 will accept a variety of magazines, and without those annoying dividers found in the SADF design. Additionally, there’s an admin pocket at the rear and it’s dangler compatible. It also includes an H-harness but other harnesses can be substituted if you’d like.
Made in the USA and offered in Ranger Green. This pre-order is shipping in mid-August.

The improvements look great. I hope they do a version in the original Nutria brown with black velcro.
I emailed them shortly after they sold out of the 1.0 and asked the same thing. They said they were internally thinking about it as long as the demand was there and they could get the color right. Sadly I guess there were either not enough of us asking for it, or suppliers just couldn’t match the original nutria brown for some reason.
Chest rig makers today always get the waist straps wrong.
The one rig that got it right was the old Blackhawk recon commando rig.
Those waist straps snugged up by pulling the dangling ends of the waist straps FORWARD, not backward.
AND
There was a MASSIVE three or four inch wide elasticized section in the small of your back that kept the tension on the waist BUT flexed with movement.
IMO, my old guy opinion, I really miss that set up, and have had some local shoe repair guys fabricate that same set up for me to “FIX” late model rigs.
Another preorder from these guys? When will people learn?
