If you’re an SSD reader, you’re into kit. Likely, you’re probably a fan of author Jack Carr’s books because of his keen attention to detail. He’s well known for dropping some of the best gear out there into the hands of his hero James Reece.

I like Carr’s books, but the later titles have gone well beyond detail-oriented and now read like a Sig catalog. There’s a way to include just enough detail about guns and gear to satisfy nerds like me without going over the top. For example, Brad Taylor and Mark Greaney do an exceptional job of this without overwhelming the reader with useless info. I don’t need to know that the protagonist is wearing Gatorz Specter glasses. Just tell me dude is putting on his sunglasses if it’s somehow relevant to the plot.
