Eddie Bauer – Flying Squirrel Sleeping Bag

In our quest to share as many zipper less sleeping bags as possible to our readers, we present the aptly named Flying Squirrel from Eddie Bauer.

The materials are top notch.  The shell is a 20D Pertex® Ripstop nylon shell and it features 850 fill Stormdown® insulation.  I allow like the crossover flap design which goes way down to knee level making it much easier to get in and out of.

For tactical use, it’s got one glaring issue; the color. Pimento and Black aren’t perfect, but the concept is awesome. I bought one of these 40 degree bags for one of my sons and he’ll be taking it out this weekend for a test drive. He’s already used it for a night in the couch and really liked how well he could vent, but I want to hear how it works put for a night in a hammock.

Seems like EB is getting back to real deal outdoor gear instead of generic clothing. I bought lined soft shell pants last winter and love them.

The First Ascent line (this bag falls under that) has been making some pretty solid outdoor gear for a while. Not sure about regular EB, don’t really wear it.

+1. The “regalur” gear is pretty good but the First Ascent stuff has some of the best price/performance ratio on the market right now…

        • Frtizthedog says:

Some of their 1st Ascent stuff was designed by talented and smart folks who have since left EB.
I have a 1st Ascent hooded down jacket liner that has held up to my abuse better than expected.
Hopefully the learnings will live on in more of their 1st Ascent product.
No gimmicks please, just top notch gear.

  2. They also make clothes in long size so that makes me happy. No longer shall I wear a tent to get the appropriate length.

EB is having a 40 percent off sale through 4/24. Their guide pants and shorts are excellent.

I like how you operate. Great reviews and you make your son sleep in the bag. Kids don’t hold anything back. They tell you how it is and what they liked and disliked. I think that is ingenious.

looks easier to get in and out of, but the toggles lack the immediate exit option of the kickstarted one that was featured. Wonder if they will come out with a warmer version, 40* bags aren’t much use to me.
