The FirstSpear Forager Cap remains one of my favorite hats. This week, we’ll focus on it and tell you about some upcoming color options.
Available in Standard and Low Profile variants, the Standard Forager Cap features a slightly longer brim than other caps that gives extra shade. Yet, both versions have a preformed, foldable bill that makes it a snap to store flat in your pocket.
You’ll also notice that there are slits, called eyeglass channels, for the temple pieces of your eyepro designed to make sure your glasses won’t go anywhere when stored above the brim.
The unique back hook strap combines stretch as well as a great deal of mechanical adjustment thanks to the buckle and loops. The Forager is also lined with an ultra light weight mesh for ventilation and wicking.
The front of the cap has a light weight breathable low nap pile from Velcro that will let you place a FS Cell Tag, PVC Patch or other ID marking. Additionally, the front breathable panel is embroidered with the FS logo if you don’t want to wear a patch.
Currently offered in Black, Coyote and MultiCam. Now hear this; Manatee Grey and Ranger Green are now availble for preorder with shipping at the beginning of August. Sizing info is below.
In honor of Independence Day FS is offering FREE domestic ground shipping on your entire cart through the weekend.

Pretty decent hat. Disappointed it isn’t made in the US and seems very similar to some Outdoor Research products. I wish it came in a non hook and loop version to save some weight. The barrels for eye-pro are a great feature
It’s not like anything made by OR. However, like OR’s hats, this is made offshore.
I should clarify, the folding brim and materiel seem similar.

Neither FS nor OR came up with the design. It’s been around for quite awhile now. Here’s an SSD article from 2009 featuring the foldable bill.

Additionally, OR does not use that fabric on any of their products.
Cannot find the grey on website lol
Gabriel check out the link, should be live now http://www.first-spear.com/product.php?productid=17862&cat=318&page=1
I’d be interested in a variation that didn’t have velcro on the front.
I second this. At the very least, pattern match the Velcro on the Multicam unit, but yeah, Velcro on everything is getting mighty irritating.

My head never changes in size. I hate one size fits all caps. About the only caps you can get is actual head sizes are issue caps and professional baseball team caps.
Its adjustable.

The exact same photo in the story above.
I know it’s adjustable, that’s my point. I want a hat that is not adjustable that I can buy in my head size 6-7/8.
The forager cap is excellent (aside from not being made in the US). The adjustable feature works far better than I expected. I’ve ordered my fourth just now–one for me, one for my son, one my brother, and one for his son. The foldable feature rocks.
I have one. Best cap I own, worth every penny. I really like the size adjustment system.
I agree. For backpacking and snowshoeing being able to adjust the tension for the weather was really nice and pretty easy with gloves
How about a red one for range instructors?? Please?
Quite funny reading the comments on this thread, and the comments on the recce hat article two articles above. Multiple comments from people gobsmacked by the $46 price for a made-in-USA recce hat. Now, I’m reading complaints about this hat, because it *isn’t* made in the USA. Hard to believe there still are those that cannot accept that “inexpensive” and “made in USA” don’t go together anymore…Oh well, at least you don’t have the V.A.T.!
Velcro? It’s not velcro in the traditional sense of velcro but rather more like a micro-suede material that’s rather soft to the touch that just happens to also hold a patch if desired. A patch though takes from the overall good looks of the hat IMHO and makes it harder to fold.
I would not place my costly glasses in the frame holder holes with the risk of velcro scratchin the lens nor do I think FS would design it so.
Ordered mine sometimes ago, after having seen it here.
Unfortunately it is too small for me even adjusted to maximum size.
FYI I am a 7 1/2, 7 3/4 head size. It fits but just and it is not bearable on the long term.
I wish they would do a litte bigger because it is awesome apart from that.
Now my daugther has a very cool cap!
I do like my low-profile version, but I do wish the front of the hat had more form to it. I don’t really use the holder holes that often as some glasses fall out easily and it is not really that easy to put some glasses in when still wearing it on your skull. All-in-all, it is a great hat, and I am sure it is difficult to have a please-one-and-all style.
