Sneak Peek – New M-Lok Rail from Troy Ind

I’ve spent the past few days with Dan Brokos at a TYR Urban Gunfighter class for Law Enforcement in Central Missouri, sponsored by TYR Tactical. Dan’s carbine was sporting a prototype, lightweight, M-Lok rail from Troy Industries.

Look for it at SHOT Show.

Gret looking rail, Id like to know the specs. The Mlok keymod war is over…Mlok won

  2. Justme says:

Troy Industries? Won’t even consider anything they make for obvious reasons.

    • Chuck says:

Vicki and Sam Weaver. Never forget.

    • Voice of Reason says:

Drop the crackpipe. Steve Troy isn’t responsible for their deaths. That lays at the feet of the Clinton Administration and their unchecked misuse of the Justice Department.

Even if you want to cling to Troy Asymmetric’s brief employment of Dale Monroe, it was just that, brief.

      • MF says:

So many people pop off not knowing facts. Ruby Ridge occurred under the first Bush administration, not the Clinton administration. Secondly, very few people know what really transpired and the bad position guys were put in due to the actions of both the ATF and the Weaver family. What resulted was a cluster.

Anyone who wants to idolize the likes of Randy Weaver and Kevin Harris, have at it.

        • Bill says:

          Straight up.

        • HSR47 says:

“Secondly, very few people know what really transpired and the bad position guys were put in due to the actions of both the ATF and the Weaver family. What resulted was a cluster.”

          Would you care to elaborate?

I’m certainly not a fan of Weaver on a personal level; I find some/many of his political affiliations to be extremely distasteful. I certainly don’t idolize Weaver or Harris, but nor do I hold any specific malice towards either.

That said, the courts saw fit to acquit them of effectively all charges used to justify the incident, which implies to me that it must have been a fairly clear case of government overreach.

Still, I’d love to hear other perspectives on this: I’m perfectly open to the notion that the actions of certain private and/or state actors conspired to make the situation worse.

      • Justme says:

You might be thinking of Jody Weiss – they inexplicably hired him too but did fire him after the backlash. Steve Troy(retired Mass. State Police) stood by Dale Monroe, quite vigorously, while people all over tried to show them how wrong they were. Last I knew he’s still employed by them.

Like I said – won’t even consider purchasing anything they make.

I like the kmod/mlok idea but the reality of it has led to much less variety on the look of the handguards. All the “new” stuff looks very similar to what’s already out there and probably what will be to come until the next big thing post kmod/mlok

    • BillC says:

The same can be said for Picatinny rails, they are handgurads with the same rails on four sides.

Or for handguards without any rails, they are just a tube.

Why worry about a look? Either something works, or it doesn’t.
More products of “the same thing” is great. It builds competition in materials, weight, function, and prices. Yeah, there’s going to be a lot of junk that’s a cash grab for the idiots with nothing better to spend their money, but that doesn’t compete with the serious use products and end users. (unless it’s a person pretending their Leapers/UTG is the same or superior to XX product).

      • PPGMD says:

I am going to design a triangular hand guard.

        Neva been done before!

      • Jack says:

The transition period from full quad rails to kmod/m-lok offered some diversity. It was far from ideal because the first steps into ditching full rails usually meant a proprietary mounting system or the cumbersome attached rail segment. I’m all for options but it just seems that as of late all the options are remarkably similar.

        • HSR47 says:

For the most part, the appeal of M-LOK and Keymod is that they help bridge the functionality gap between lightweight and ergonomic free-float tubes and heavy and clunky cheesegrater rails.

Instead of having lots of pic. rail everywhere, you can now have it only where you need it. Often, you can ditch it altogether in favor of mounting directly to the rail itself.

While there have been systems in the past that offered similar functionality (LWRC and KAC have offered solutions in this vein for awhile), they were all proprietary and not intercompatible. The allure of Keymod and M-LOK is that they offer most of the convenience of full pic. rails without having to haul around all the weight.

  4. Mark says:

I’ve been using an aluminum Troy M-Lok Battle Rail, that looks exactly like this one, for at least seven months.

Is this new prototype version made from some other material, that is lighter weight than the aluminum one?

It doesn’t look like carbon fiber, from the photographs.

    I am confused.

  5. Danny Boy says:

Does it fit to a standard barrel nut like the old version?

  6. Diddler says:

Finally, I’m not the only dude with an LCO.

  7. Mark says:

    Yes.

It mounts to a standard USGI barrel nut with four fasteners, now, instead of three, like the older Battle Rails.

  8. MidGasFan says:

I like the shape and the ease of mounting. I’m sure it will be quite nice.

Unfortunately, most folks I know stopped selling Troy products due to the fact that they give only 20-25% to small dealers trying to make their bones and then offer 20-30% sales a couple times a year direct to everyone, this undercutting dealers.

  9. Moe says:

Nice handguard. I was for Troy to release something that can compete with all the others, but I’m more curious about the ring mount for the flashlight. First time to see something like that.
