Really neat idea, but I want more info on the FCU X02 and X03. The X02 – if it’s what I think it is – will blow these other chasses out of the water.
Waiting eagerly for the G17 version
… You realize that’s never going to be a thing, right?
Weeelllllll…… I’m a glass half full kinda guy…
I look at this type of system that takes your handgun, for whatever mission/job you may have, and I think sure, it flexes your capability. PSD, whatever. But then I think, wait. When I did PSD work, I always had a sidearm and a primary carbine or SMG. You just made your secondary your primary, with no secondary, unless you are going to carry 2 pistols. And if you are going to carry 2 like that, why not use a dedicated, purpose built platform, such as any number of SMG choices rather than relying on a drop in gizmo. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
From a gee-whiz perspective these are cool, but I don’t understand this current trend of trying to “carbinize” handguns…either carry a carbine or improve your pistol skills so that such items aren’t necessary.
“Current trend”
You mean the trend since at least the early 1900’s? That current, over a century, long trend?
Yeah, the same trend that’s failed every time it’s been implemented. (well, ok, shout out to C96 for making an honest effort.) It turns out that trying to fill a weird niche between handguns/PDW’s and carbines just makes it inefficient at both. Who would have thought?
A fine and remarkable piece for collectors and hobbyists, I’d love to have one but give me MP7 before this if I am tasked to employ a weapon inside 100m.
So Tier 1 units are using this?
No.
But it says Tier 1 units helped in the design!
Heck, owner himself stated over on Arf that DEVGRU has been using it and plans to replace the MP7 with it as it is 30% faster shot for shot and drops people faster.
If you’re wondering about role, it fits a few of niche’s- compact bag gun that compliments your concealed 320, secondary that’s smaller and lighter than just about any other pdw( talking pistol light here), slimmer and faster to deploy than sidefolders, very compact pdw for admin tasks. It’s not really a replacement, but a supplement. You can certainly over-complicate things with too many options, but sometimes nothing else really fits and this would not require a lot of backend.
It makes sense in a narrow lane. It’s something you can throw in the ruck and hump 15k to an FFP and install once the hide site has been set up as a means to deal with surprise guests at your location. That eliminates the rifle and a handful of mags from the packing list. The M17 isnt going to be as effective as a rifle, but it is a fair compromise given that it knocks 15+ pounds off the packing list for dudes who would be better off carrying more batteries and water…
