Springfield Armory Launches Hi-Power Clone, The SA-35

Earlier today, Springfield Armory announced their new SA-35, their version of the Browning P-35, popularly known as the Hi-Power.

But it’s not an exact clone. SA has reconfigured the hammer to help mitigate hammer bite, included an extended safety, modernized the sights, beveled the magwell and slipped in a factory tuned trigger.

Here are the stats:

At $699 MSRP, I’ll definitely be on the look for one, for nostalgia’s sake if nothing else. There’s something comforting about a pistol made of steel and wood.

I expect additional models in the future.

Man, oh man. Gimme an ambi safety version and I’m on it. Deck it out with G10 grips and tritium sights and this is the perfect carry.

  2. Stickman says:

Great to see such a long running classic get brought back to life, and at a decent price point. If these guns are functional, they will bring a lot of smiles. Good job Springfield!

  3. Gerard says:

Thats such a classic Im glad its back. I want two!

  4. .308 says:

  5. Raul says:

Sign me up (and my dad) for two each.

  6. Lcpl0420 says:

Who is going as Axel Folley for Halloween?

  7. Brent A Russell says:

    That was Sonny Crockett.

  8. James says:

Let a FM detective model slip through my fingers once, that would be a pretty sweet ” future model. Drop it back down to 13 rds, maybe even slim the grip with a semi staggered mag….

  9. RD says:

… why drop it to 13 when even other modern HiPoint mags hold 15?

  10. Kevin says:

Anybody else notice that SA has moved the s/n to the side of the frame so that checkering the front strap is a bit easier?

  11. Tom says:

Please please please do a special edition.

    -No mag safety
    -Light rail
    -Extended beavertail
    -Ambi safety

  12. Vince Cariati says:

kind of pricey. i got my sa 1911 for under $500 nib. and i just bought a nice used hk45 for under $700.

    • SVGC says:

Go take a look at Hi Powers on Gunbroker dude. This is modestly priced.

    • robert says:

Pricey? You have not been able to buy a NIB Browning Hi Power for this price in 15-20 years! LOL! If this is anywhere close to what a Browning Hi Power is then $699 is CHEAP!!!!!!!!!! Thats why these are selling on GB for $1200-$2000 right now! LOL! Pricey? Hilarious!

  13. AbnMedOps says:

Be cool if they made it in .45

    • RD says:

If by cool you mean a step backwards?

      • Eric C says:

        I don’t want a SA-35 in .45.

But if by “backwards” you mean disregarding the 9mm deep-throating bandwagon, then yes.

In anything but bonded JHP ammo, .45 still outperforms 9mm. Oh, and .45 comes in bonded JHP too.

Seems like every time you open your lips you goofy chit slips out! Do yourself a favor and just go away! LOL! You have no idea of what you are talking about. Why you felt the need to compare ANY 45 in this posting which is about the re release of one of John Brownings classic designs is beyond every one but you! ??? I am a 1911 fan for sure and have owned a couple hundred of them…ZERO EXAGGERATION…but this topic isnt about 1911’s, 45’s or 45s vs 9mm’s or any of that horse pucky!

With todays powders, bullet materials and designs, 9mm’s have come a long way and will do the job of self defense or a duty gun just fine with LOTS of stopping power! When you bag on a John Brownings classic Hi Power…you just show your ignorance about firearms in general!

Im picking up two to start with and if they are what they are supposed to be ill be picking up a few more for my sons and son in laws! LOL!

          • Eric C says:

Apparently you missed my point. I’m not even certain you were replying to me. But if you were, my very first statement was that I’m NOT interested in a .45 Hi-Power, which implies that I’d want it in its original caliber. My next statement criticized the guy who stated that .45 was a step backwards from 9mm. There’s no doubt 9mm is sufficient. Again, the caliber’s primary game changer was bonded JHP technology, which also improved other duty calibers that were originally developed as alternatives to 9mm.

            “LOL!” SMH

I always avoid the first Gen run of any new firearm. These days they are just too often plagued with issues. Once all the kinks of that run are addressed, I’ll definitely pick one up. Been wanting a BHP or something like it for some time now. Here’s hoping it’s not a POS and they’ll take a stab at the Bren Ten next.

  15. Stefan Leoczko says:

I find it interesting that everyone is jumping on the Springfield bandwagon for a new Hi Power, when I’ve had my Tisas BR-9 for over a year, and I absolutely love it. I even have OEM Browning parts as well as aftermarket Hi Power components in it; and it shoots flawlessly.

That’s not to say I don’t want to give the Springfield a whirl, because I will; I’m just saying that it’s not like Springfield is “the only” new Hi Power game in town.

  16. Stinkfeet says:

John Moses would be proud. Although he died before finishing the gun and FN in Belgium completed his design. Ten years ago you could buy a hi-power for this price but now a good one is about double that amount. I hope this SA clone turns out to be a good one.
