The development of new, highly-capable quick-reaction teams in counter-poaching is a novel turn in the Rhino war which exploded in 2006 and 2007 due to escalating demand for trafficked rhino horn. According to current estimates, the wild rhino faces extinction within a decade if current trends continue.
