Old Soles Don’t Die – They Just Move to England to be Mated to New Uppers

UK boot maker Altberg has mated their popular Jungle Micro upper to the classic Panama sole.

Seen here is the Jungle Micro upper which features a polypropelene graded midsole for underfoot support and protection and Anfibio 2.4mm leather/Cordura construction.

Designed during the height of the Viet Nam war, the Panama tread seen below is designed to release mud but maintain traction on slippery jungle trails.

Available in UK sizes 5 – 11.5

I was under impression, that Panama sole was designed in mid forties.

Do you have a source? It wasn’t integrated into the jungle boot until the mid-60s.

Cresson Kearny’s account is that his aid Raymond Dobie came up with the gist of the design in 1944 and then in 1966 he (Kearny) tinkered with Dobie’s design and went to Wellco with the results.*

IIRC. The panama sole was designed in the mid 60’s the process to join the sole to the upper was not patented till the late 50’s

Glad to see the ol’ Panama sole being “reborn” onto a modern upper boot. The Panama sole is THE best sole for the jungle.

This looks like a win for Altberg. I do hope that their upper is a lot more comfortable than the canvas and nylon upper of the US Jungle Boot and they also have more cushioning and support for the foot undersole than the US boot too though.

These have been out for a couple of years. These ate the best jungle boot available. Still waiting fortem to produce a brown pair with the panama sole. How about it Altberg?
