When FirstSpear showed me photos of their new kit just prior to SHOT Show, there was this cool gun belt in the mix. I was like, “I want that. All of this cool guy nylon is awesome but I wear pants everyday.”
Turns out, it is made from BioThane, an Urethane impregnated Nylon webbing, originally developed for horse tack that won’t rot and won’t stretch. It looks like leather, right down to the grain, but it isn’t. Plenty stiff for keeping your pants up and holding your shootin’ iron, it’s got that gunfighter leather belt look to it. Sure, it doesn’t have any fancy stitching, but it has been tooled a little bit, including the FirstSpear logo embossed fittingly, at the tip. There are also two lines grooved into the BioThane for style as well as an antiqued buckle. It’s a good looking belt.

I’m glad to see more people start to use this. I went to a pistol class and the instructor was wearing the Maxpedition biothane belt (Ligerthane) and I was amazed at how thin it was and how well it held up all his gear – it looked to be the same thickness as a cheapo Wal-mart belt but was rock solid. Looking around I discovered that Galco made one for under $30 and jumped on it… it’s been amazing. After nearly a year there’s no sag, give, or curve to the belt. I actually find myself not tightening my belt as much as I did with a wilderness type because the belt holds up the gear that well.
More options in this material are a good thing… though I’d rather have a dark brown (like dark brown leather belts) rather than a coyote belt. Really though, now I just need to find someone who makes one that can swap the buckles out.
I love the First Spear gear and guys. Why no 2XL? All the guys on my team are 2XL or 4XL. Can you make us a special run for our special unit?
Nice call on the “fancy stitching” because that’s precisely the belt I’d replace with this one… I think it would draw less attention.
