Ever since they took Schoolhouse Rock off of Saturday morning cartoons it seems that no one has an even basic understanding of the legislative process or how an idea becomes a law. It’s not an easy thing to pass a law and this short cartoon will give you an idea of the multiple roadblocks to passing a new law. Think of it as activism 101.

Those were good.
At, 2:19, there is a firearms bill. A hunter-bill, it looks to be. Deer-stalker hat, boots and belt, with a shotgun in his armpit, pointed at and stuck in the gut of the bill behind him. Imagine that. They tought we were careless, even back then. Ah, the days do weary one’s soul.

Of course, an executive order has no such process.
(and yes, the maladministration is talking about them..)
There’s a great danger to any form of sweeping executive action if it comes on the heels of failed legislation to accomplish the same goal. It labels the POTUS as a dictator and may result in impeachment, but will definitely cost his party perceived power and may well result in the loss of seats in coming elections as the electorate moves to marginalized his and his party’s influence.
There might be that danger as you have stated, but it COULD happen. Don’t forget how the healthcare package was rammed down the throats of the Representatives and Senators. They did not even get to read it BEFORE passing it. Yes, we the people did take some action, BUT it is STILL here. People need to wake up the realization that things HAVE changed up there. Maybe 5-10 years ago we still had a chance, but things are not the same any more. Liberties have been lost and NONE have been recovered. We stand to lose A LOT more this year.
It saddens me to no end that all those men and women in uniform may have died in vain IF we allow our liberties to be lost and or trampled upon. The sheeple need to WAKE up and WE need to EDUCATE them to wake them up. I think we need to really look back at history and see what it really means to be patriotic. Patriotism is NOT serving ones country, though it is a means to be Patriotic. Patriotism is standing up for and fighting for FREEDOM no matter where it is. How many of us are doing that RIGHT now, not saying no one is just asking for a self-check. Political activism is paramount at this stage and doing nothing just disrespects those who gave all. Sorry for the rant, we really are in die are need circumstances. We can all sit back and say, “oh, that will never happen.” Well, I pity the morning when those who say such a thing wake up and say, “how did this happen?”
Well, it’s amazing to me how we as a people THINK that some act cannot come about because it violates our Constitution or way of doing things in the past. But, 01-09-2013; on CNN, VP Joe Biden has made mention that the President MAY take action on his own in reference to the gun-control issue. I’m sorry to say folks, things ARE as bad as they seem. Where in the Constitution does it give the President to enact laws in and of himself? This my friends and brothers is the attempted destruction of our Second Amendment. IF, this passes and the sheeple cave in; we have lost all ability to defend ourselves from the people who have been put into office. This is NOT and anti-government post, this IS a pro-Constitutional Government post. I know I am speaking to the choir to most, but some need to be educated who may not share our views. To leave you with a quote:
“A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”
– George Washington
Could not have been said better.
An executive order cannot be used to create a law.
But it can be used to modify what’s already in effect.
Thanks for posting this Eric.
I learned it a little more thoroughly! For shame to my parents and school system (though my parents had no idea how to go about getting to college either).
If only someone would dub this into Portuguese. I have friends in Brasil, and I read the news from there sometimes, and they’re all saying “Firearms WILL BE BANNED IN USA!”. Apparently their news agencies don’t know how legislation is passed here, or there for that matter.
Well, I’m only a Bill and will remain a Bill until I die. I loved the old “Schoolhouse Rock” episodes every Saturday morning. Most of them provided some educational benefit with a catchy tune such as this one and the “Conjunction Junction.” Also, I would not put too much emphasis into the portrayal of the hunter because most of these episodes explained things about the U.S.A. in a patriotic way in a manner different from school. Geez, who knew learning could be fun and interesting?
Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, get your adverbs here from Interplanet Janet from Conjunction Junction, what’s YOUR function?
Concur…that 3 is a magical number.
