‘ When attending a training class do yourself and your classmates a big favor; use electronic hearing protection. This allows you to actually listen to what the instructor is saying without having to constantly ask those around you on the firing line who happen to be wearing electronic ear pro.
Bottomline is if you own a smartphone then you have no excuse to not own electronic hearing protection . Enough said.’

I’d take what Larry said one step further and strongly suggest buying high quality electronic ear pro, so that you only have to buy one pair and not worry about it ever again. Either the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro X model, or Peltor ComTac II.
I have the Sordin Supreme Pro X and have been running them for 3 years now. They are the bee’s knees! Most of my time with them is without a helmet, but I also run them under my Ops Core FAST helmet and they work great that way too. I don’t run comms though, so can’t speak on that. I have heard from a few SWAT cops that they prefer the Peltor ComTac II’s for running comms though.
Lastly, buying the gel earmuffs seals is a must for all day comfort, which is even more important if running them under a helmet. The gel ear seals are the only thing that will wear out every 2 years or so. Battery life is also awesome, btw.

Tried electronic ear pro for the first time last week, essential kit. As a PA in the military I see a lot of troops with sensory neural hearing loss (by audiogram) and even more complaining of tinnitus. These are preventable injuries during range work. Of course if your wearing a helmet or radio equipment its a no go and a good ear pro that fits inside the ear is needed.
Peltor Comtacs and Sordins are designed to work under a helmet and with radio equipment.
