Power Breezer

The Power Breezer mobile cooling device is an energy efficient cooling system that can drop the temperature over 27 degrees in a 3000 sq/ft area (uncovered or partially covered). It uses no harmful chemicals and, unlike swamp coolers, it won’t spray water all over personnel and equipment. Instead, it uses a process incorporating water atomization.

The Power Breezer mobile cooling device is available for unit and agency orders through www.adsinc.com.

Sadly, these are not working out as well as advertised here in the Gulf States. The wind plays havoc on the cooling effect, the early control box design is not impervious to sand and dust so they eventually lock up, and unless the PBs are 3m or so away from people and things they are intended to cool, everything in it’s path winds up looking like a sand-colored sugar cookie. Unfortunately it’s so damn windy here that the troops move closer and closer to the PB to get the “cooling” effect – enter the sugar cookie effect mentioned previously. We also run Porta-coolers here and the troops definitely prefer them over the PBs.

We’re working with the PB manufacturer on the issues, but other issues are simply a by-product of the water atomizing design.

Evaporative Coolers are great for low metabolic output activities (i.e. standing around), and cool down after exercise because the body’s sweat rate goes down (somewhat) so providing cool ambient air will feel great, increase thermal comfort (=>morale). Be careful using them for extending work times and metabolic output during continuous exercise because they increase the %RH and can possibly impact evaporating sweat from the body.

When properly hydrated the body will sweat enough to keep (in shape, non drug using [including caffeine and tobacco, I know, I know], and thermally acclimated) people out of heat stress in accordance with the published work/rest cycles. If exercising the significant benefit is coming from the increase in the air velocity, especially once already sweating. That’s why everyone wants to stand right in front of the fan and gets frosted. Then once their naturally produced sweat is evaporated (because the air velocity is high enough right in front of the fan) they then get the cooling effect from the atomized water. If you don’t add the atomized water, eventually the high air velocity will evaporate the sweat of non-maximally sweating individuals and the body will heat through convection from the warmer air.

We always appreciate getting feedback so we can evolve and continually optimize the design. You are right – Mother Nature is tough to beat when it is both windy and extremely dusty. Unlike swamp coolers, The Power Breezer does allow one to control the amount of moisture used so that users can adjust the evaporation levels to make it useful in dry and humid climates. Sugar cookies should only be when requested!
Power Breezers have been supporting our troops successfully in Gulf States, CONUS, and around the world. Thanks for your feedback and input. We will continue to work hard to support you. Thank you for all that you do.
