According to an Army press release, the recently released Army Combat Uniform – Alternate is authorized for both female and male Soldiers as it offers more fit options. The uniform is already being issued to Basic Trainees at Ft Sill and Soldiers can choose to wear either the ACU-As or the ACUs.
The new uniform trousers feature: wider areas at the hips, waist and backside; elastic around the waistband instead of a pull string; adjusted pockets and knee-pad inserts; and a shortened crotch length.
In the jackets, changes include: adjusted rank and nametape positioning; adjusted pockets and elbow-pad inserts; slimmer shoulders; a thinner and more fitted waist; and a longer and wider ACU coat bottom. Also, buttons are replacing the Velcro pockets.
According to the Army, Soldiers can purchase the ACU-A at Military Clothing Sales Stores at Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Lee, Va.; Fort Belvoir, Va.; and Fort Eustis, Va.
Any idea what pattern it will be in?
I’m going to go out on a limb and say ACU.
I know, I was trying to see if we could get an answer about the new pattern.
I have slightly wider hips than the average guy. So I was interested in the trousers until i read about the shorten crotch length. Fuck that shit.
Which explains why they haven’t revealed your new pattern yet….
“slimmer shoulders” and “wider ACU coat bottom”? So the Army has a pressing need to accomodate those with weak upper bodies and large gut/ass?
Perhaps the day will come when the Army makes a uniform for those who bother to do PT on a regular basis…….
So inappropriate! These uniforms are made to accomadate the female body and it’s about time.
So there’s money to spend on researching, developing, procuring and fielding a new cut of (soon to be obsolete) uniform, but they won’t move forward with announcing and rolling out its replacement due to “lack of funds”?
I thought the ACU uniform is here to stay… only UCP is going? I could be wrong but I’ve not seen anything. Soldiers just don’t know the difference between the two.
Buttons on pockets? Awesome. Will propper be offering these, and will mixing ACU with ACU-A tops or bottoms be ok?
The new ACU and FR-ACU have buttons on the pants pockets. My OCP top has buttons on the wrists too.
My UCP pattern ACU jacket has buttons on the wrist.
Why do I get the feeling that most males who will be using these will be of the… Ahem… “Plump” variety?
Maybe the trousers but the jackets will be narrow in the waist.
This is like watching a fucking slow motion train wreck. I feel like telling my nephew he should join the French Foreign Legion.
or the Marine Corps
MARCH OR DIE !!!
1/503 MOD company? Spent some time with them in the Bermel districk back in 07-08.
It’s also heavily associated with the FFL
It was fun dodging the rockets there and at Malekshay…
I’m all for fatbodies having uniforms to wear–as they’re managed out of the system.
A Medium-Regular female isn’t fat. All this uniform means is that she doesn’t have to walk around looking like she’s wearing some dude’s clothes. Hopefully they’ll be more widely available.
Isn’t the purpose of a camo uniform to disrupt the human outline, not complement it?
acu-o. for obese. double wide should be a fitting.
All you dudes built like chicks, arise from the depths of your shame and rejoice!
Un Fing real, uniforms to make overweight people look and feel better.
