Ummm contrary to a few vendors that flat out lie about it, Cobra buckles WILL release under a load.

This seems like a bad idea.

    • 215 Gear says:

To date the US military is the largest consumer of Cobra Buckles. The implementation of the buckle into the US Army Air Warrior Program had conducted a test or two, in addition to the actual fielding of this component for many years since. Can you provide more information on the buckles releasing under load?

      • Bruce says:

Put a belt on, place it under a load, and hit the release mechanism…see what happens.

You don’t need a study to get this information.

        • Robert says:

well dumb ass im sure if u hit the release, its going to release…thats what they do….iv used these several times through out my military service and have never had one just pop loose unless I hit the release on purpose

        • Ycare says:

Just tried and peanuts, definitely doesn’t open with a full load.
I had the buckle of my belt harness partially open (one pin opening among the two) because of gear pushing against it and no load on it, but even with that, the buckle won’t fully open and still prevents the second pin to open by accident. Never have I had my harness falling on me, load or no loads.

Wait, is that the guy from the Raptor buckles?

    • Bruce,
If you have the integrity, please publish your full name and company affiliation. We’d be happy to have our legal counsel contact you regarding your false and slanderous post. Your comments are ABSOLUTELY ignorant and incorrect. COBRA buckles most certainly DO NOT open under load and your comments to the opposite are nothing short of libel.

    Awesome.

I guess we know what the costumes in the next G.I. Joe film will be made out of 😛

  3. Lev says:

Just in time! I need a new buckle on my fur-lined tac-jockstrap with appendix-mount sheath. I know, you’re thinkin kydex…ouch! but you’d be wrong: it’s hand-tanned, lathe-turned, drilled and tapped idro-perwanger kangaroo (rat) leather for the 10″ tanto (yep, that’s what my yoga/combatives instructor recommends and that chick ought to know) and I need a buckle that meets my specs. One of these high speed austri-alpin buckles will do the trick….i face at least ten, no eleven, no-sh*t situations each day where 18kn is barely enough to keep me fully clothed, alert, motivated and professional in appearance and bearing. Hope they come out with something stronger soon though. Let’s face it, 18kn meets the low end of the operational spectrum for a tactical jockstrap, but is probably best left to applications such as IPAD and macbook (Air) cases.

Has Gecko45 reviewed this inovative new product?

  5. bob says:

Wow. What’s with all the hater-ade?? I clearly have no use for one of these, and if the keyboard commandos actually read the article (“*Military, Para-Sport, Industrial Safety, Offshore Rigging, Flight suits, riggers belts and just about anywhere else you find D-ring fastener / buckles.”) they would understand it wasn’t designed for casual, daily use.

  6. Kango says:

All you tactical mall ninjas who just discovered the cobra buckle in the past few years. News flash, cobra bucks have been used for a long time in air crew survival vests before they were in vogue with the “tactical” community.

Plenty of testing have been done on the buckle. More in-depth than putting on a cobra buckle belt and seeing if it will release from the load of your shit locker hanging over top of it.

  7. Jon Meyer says:

Cobra buckles are the standards standard. I love when people spew feces from the mouth or the keyboard with no actual knowledge. The people roughing it or down range know their shit and if they say something is good to go, then it is good to go. What’s next, bushmaster on par with Noveske or BCM? Ha! I don’t think so. Use cobra buckles or pound sand.

  8. T64K says:

I guess that Raptor Buckles are the way to go?? After all they are made by some guys in a back room somewhere wearing flip flops as they chain smoke tree bark.

  9. Haji says:

The only problem with this development is that they’re not shipping yet. We’ve already got customers asking for these; SSD is an enabler. LOL!

  10. KBGunsmith says:

Is anyone going to be making riggers belts with these yet?

  11. Jim says:

Anyone know the price per buckle for these bad boys?

    Thanks in advance.
