Hardcore Hardware Australia’s MUK01-G Medium Urban Knife is designed as a dual purpose EOD and Dive Knife alternative. It features a modified chisel point for prying and probing, aggressive partial spine serrations, and hammer pommel with lanyard points. The full-tang handle features 3D G10 scales. The included sheath is Kydex with Molle-Lok. This is a brand-new product that is not yet featured on the Hardcore Hardware Australia website.

What at all makes this a good knife for EOD? Prying, probing? My Gerber LMF2 does all of that. If you incorperate a C4 punch, shock tube cutter or SOMETHING EOD related MAYBE, but I’m going to say no to this guy.
If probing in the dirt for live wires (ordnance), I’m tipping the sharpened leading edge on your LMF is probably gonna result in a very bad hair day for you and the bloke next to ya – just say’n
I don’t go probing for wires (loop switches, break-wires, etc), If I probe for anything that might electrical I don’t use metal (I’d rather use explosives or my bot), but when I get a hit on something on a range or area that should be “clear” (it’s happened) I’m not worried about electrical anything so my lmf is clear to use. Any one that says “what about hung/cocked stricker?” use proper probing techniques and you won’t have to worry too much about it.

Serrations might be a bit OTT but I guess they must be for cutting nylon rope and such.

Better be stainless and not D2 like their othwr stuff or she’ll rust like a pig.
G10 handle is different, should work in salt water as long as the screws are corrosion proof. Looks like they built this for easy pull down and maintainence. Needs a gut hook/line cutter as a dedicated diver.

It’s made from 440C Stainless with a hardness of 56-58 HRC. Teflon coated with options for Black or Coyote finish.
Like most of Hardcore Hardware Australia’s products. They are made to a look, not to a standard.
They are secretive of where their products are made and state ‘asia’ as their manufacturing source (they are only partially Australian made, assembled is more appropriate a word).

The Medford looks built to task but at $500, really? How can a basic design like this in D2 cost so much?
OK, off of the HH Facebook the rate is $259 and that’s Aust $, that’s less than 1/2 the cost of the competing brand. Clearly this is more of Diver than an EOD tool. The Medford has the cord cutter, has a hammer on the end and isn’t sharpened up front at all, so I’m of the view that they really are designed for different applications. The HH model will confuse some with the EOD tag but it’s not a copy – sounds like sour grapes to me………..Next……
