Yeah, back then we messed with you a little bit by not disclosing any info on the DUST-E which protects the top of the magazine when it’s inserted into the SMR. It’s not that we didn’t want to tell you, but rather, S&S precision wasn’t quite ready to show everything. They had a valid concern that it would be knocked off before SHOT Show. I’ve got to say, it’s pretty entertaining watching guys go on and on, putting something down that they haven’t seen in person. It’s even funnier when you tell them that it’s covered and they just can’t stop talking about it (Ok, I’ll admit it, it did hit a point where it was annoying). So, the rest of the story is that they had the upside down open top magazine issue covered all along and the answer is the DUST-E which is an insert for the SMR. In fact, I photographed the very items seen in this video for the sneak peek article. They literally left the next day for the photo shoot.
All-in-all it’s a cool system and can be used without a PlateFrame with their new Rhodesian Rig, MOLLE adapters and Belt Adapters. Before you ask, that’s ODG camo.

Yeah but the bottom of the magazine is exposed and dirt/dust will…. Oh. Wait. Never mind…
I loved the butt hurt last time around. As if a progressive company like S&S wouldn’t think “Hmmm…Maybe dust and dirt getting into an open mag might be an issue.”
What would those guys with all their experience carrying magazines all over the world possibly know?
Hmmm. So before, it was a lightweight holder due to the cut-aways. Now it has a bottom part that can be clicked in. I wonder whether this is still lighter than a simple Kydex wrap-around holder.
This is stupid light. the weight difference between the SMR and kydex should be negligible, especially when stacked against the fact that the SMR is modular and can be shifted to a belt or other platform as requirements change. The fact that this comes out to be less expensive than the previous boltaron insert makes it a no-brainer for most.
They certainly don’t seem to be advertising the belt side of it though. Wonder when the molle compatible parts will show up online.
Looks great! Out of curiosity will it fit the Tango down ARC mag?
Every time a new prototype is revealed, we should all just assume every problem will be magically fixed before it goes into production. Smart people have never made bad products before.
Looks like a good system, curious about the footprint, looks like maybe 3 mags in the space of 4 molle mag pouches? Little space between the mags sure isn’t a bad thing.
I’m assuming its slightly less rigid then kydex?
I’m too heavily invested in hsgi tacos to switch but if I was starting from scratch I’d look pretty hard at these.
and the price point to, S&S makes some cool stuff but way way over priced. I mean come on $150 for a kangaroo insert
