Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

‘I was an early advocate of an ‘enhanced ‘ trigger in the M4 carbine but after seeing one double (fire two shots instead of one ) on a guy I became very wary of them. So with that in mind I was late to warm up to ‘enhanced’ triggers again for the AR platform. After using them again for a period of time I can recommend two brands by name ; Geisselle and Wilson Combat . The Geisselle has built a superb reputation within SOF and for good reason; they are excellent quality and are extremely durable.

I have also used the Wilson Combat TTU drop in unit with good results. Wilson Combat is famous for good customer service and quality assurance so between these two brands you can certainly find an AR trigger that meets your needs.’

  1. I only have experience with 2 Wilson Combat triggers. They felt AMAZING, however, both went full auto within the 1st 100 rounds of use.

What is meant by ‘enhanced’? I’m wondering if my Geissele S3G or CMC Flat Trigger fall into the category. Either way, both have an excellent feel, and work flawlessly.

    • Yes both of those would be ‘enhanced’ triggers vs the stock design

Larry, do those triggers have overtravel/takeup adjustments and what is your opinion of same on a combat trigger? I am a little leery of adding screws / adjustments into the mix no matter how much loctite I use on them. But I readily admit I have zero data to back that gut feeling. Wondering if you have tested any long term.

      • Mike Nomad says:

Ah, I see. Anything not Bog Standard is Enhanced.

  3. X160 says:

Another viable option is the JP trigger, which is what I like to use on my Duty/Training rifles.

For those unaware of JP Triggers:
JP triggers have been in use within the SOF community for a number of years prior to Geisselle hitting the scene (and are still being used by some today). In addition to being well received by military end users, their triggers remain popular amongst many professional competition shooters (their primary market audience).

I learned to stay stock a long time ago. My AR is also my primary home defense weapon, and despite living in a relatively pro-gun state, i prefer to keep myself out of any potential hot water with a modified trigger during a hypothetical court case if i have to defend my life.

Increased complexity sets up the stage for more to go wrong in my opinion.
