Earlier in the week, we posted an article on the BCM Mod 3 Vertical Grip, and there was a quite a bit of buzz regarding the identity of the mag pouch featured in this image:
Well, now we’re cleared to talk about it, and we’ve got to say that the overall system has got us pretty excited.
It’s called G-Code Scorpion, and it’s a line of modular magazine and fighting equipment carrying systems with a minimalist design. The interior of each pouch is lined with G-Code Tactical FUZZ, a material that provides a friction medium which not only retains the magazine but also provides a smooth, silent draw. Each pouch also features engineered channels which provide armored protection of the binding cord, ensuring precision placement of the interlace. The binding cord allows the end user to fine tune the feel of the draw to their own personal preference.
G-Code Scorpion pouches are ambidextrous and RTI compatible, and can readily integrate with the entire family of G-Code mounting accessories right out of the box.
Scorpion pouches are also designed so that they can be stacked, allowing for multi-rifle, multi-pistol, or rifle and pistol platforms.

Pretty cool looking kit, Quick couple questions.
1. Weight? Vs nylon
2. Do they offer 2-3 mags in one carrier or do you have to stack them?
3. Why does a company market it as silent to remove mags? If your changing mags, there probably has been some noise already… Maybe like 30 small bangs? Always thought that was an oddity
In any operation all equipment should be secured and silent when moving about. A particualr situatiion may arise where you have to distribute ammo between partners in observation situations or remove equiipmnet to perform an opeartion. I certainly would not want to be in full gear looking and sounding like a fat man with change in his pocket running to the bus stop. Run silent, run deep — always.
Ok, looks cool and very functional, what about noise in wooded terrain with limbs, briars hitting it or sliding down them. Regardless I want them.
As far as weight the larger 762 pouch is with MOLLE mount is 3.5 oz
The Scorpion pouches are individual units but can be combined (or stacked). This gives you great flexibility in how you configure your gear.
Will they be available in multicam ? And I think HSGI might be raising a eye brow or two. Any body say Kydex taco. Just sayin.
Seriously? Explain exactly how this is the same as a TACO.
I am guessing the thought is HSGI has a monopoly on all things shock cord and nobody else can ever use it ever without permission.
I think it’s the shock cord that makes me think of it, because “Kydex TACO” was the first thought I had as well.

Brilliant,this pouch has no expansion since the front and back are sawn together.The retention adjustment is done in a completely different spot ,in the taco and scorpion the adjustment is done in where the elastic is in this pouch.
If you want to be painfully literal about let’s try this:
Both the scorpion and the taco are open top mag pouches with open sides with retention that comes from bungee cord that is threaded from front to back.
That’s not what you said. I can read. Perhaps you meant that, but the photo I posted does in fact meet the criteria you wrote. Now, you’ve changed it. There are pouches out there that do what you describe in your revision as well. Im just too lazy to go look for photos.

This is more relevant to the OP’s comment not mine,my point is the designs are similar not that hsgi should sue.
And my point is that there are lots of designs that are similar in that they carry magazines.
And some are more similar in more ways than that.

HSGI is practically right down the road from G-Code. I’m pretty sure Gene is perfectly happy with this new design. It’s not exactly the same as a TACO. Can you put a 7.62 mag in this 5.56 scorpion carrier? Didn’t think so…

Yeah, I remembered that right after I posted my comment. Either way, I would hope that HSGI remained in good relations with G Code after Gene left. Gene’s departure was fairly transparent to most of us.

I always find these comments tacky. It’s different in so many ways. The better question is, “why should I use this one?”

Likewise; it is totally ambidextrous and can stack rifle to rifle or pistol to rifle giving total flexibility to the user.
Scott and his crew run a truly first class operation – they put lots of thought and operator input behind everything they do and this looks like it’s going to be (yet another) winner from them.
The fact that this is set up with RTI compatibility from the start is a solid winner for me – true modularity and the ability to move my carriers from belt to chest rig to armor to wherever is awesome. I can’t wait to purchase these.

I can’t wait to get some of these. I really could have used them while at the Sig Sauer Instructor Course in September. I can see the need to consider covering these with the tactical fuzz for those applications where objects rubbing against them would make unwanted noise such as an actual tactical application in wooded or urban environments. Thanks for posting up some info on these guys! Looks like a great system all around, and I’m always a fan of another 7.62 pouch. Definitely seems a little more fine tuned to a specific mag size rather than appealing to a range of mage sizes like the taco systems do.
Overall, seems like it should hold up to wear n’ tear, and I can’t wait to see the new liner material firsthand.
I like it, hope they get made in black.

Ah, great idea, thanks man. I think I might hit them with truck bed liner to match my stock.
Hopefully they offer the option to get the outside coated in fuzz along with the inside.
I can’t deny that ‘TACO’ popped in to my head on first sight, but that’s not to say these will function the same, having the fuzz on the inside certainly seems like a good move. Though I hope it’s glued on REALLY strongly as I can see it peeling away after a little while and being a hindrance otherwise, my OSH with multicam finish didn’t take much use at all to go ratty around the edges.
However a kydex pouch that’s not as limited in scope as most of them are (i.e. to one very specific mag type in many cases) is a welcome addition to the market. Something that retains firmly but doesn’t close down on you when it comes to reinsertion is, of course, always desirable.
Looking forward to more colour options and testing out the level of retention provided/smoothness of draw as well as the retention of grit in the fuzz, hopefully it won’t need cleaning out too often.
Looking forward to black coming out. Now if only they could work with the raven concealment moduloaders I’d be really happy.

I’m curious as to why there has to be a version for both single and double stack pistol mags? Given the fact that it uses shock cord for adjustable retention, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to have a version that fit both.

I think they are awesome , I cant wait to grab a set. I just want them in multicam. I could get them now and get them dipped or I could wait. Uh, if you’re going to seriously cry foul that these are the same as Taco, look at Tyr Tactical’s mag pouches. They are literally exactly the same concept and idea as TACOs , but made with material that doesn’t look like it belongs on a Condor crap.
These look nice, but I would like to see Multicam Fabric covered versions. They really need to put Multicam back on their holsters too.
These new mag holders appear to be well made and look rather professional. G-Code makes excellent products and I have always been well satisfied with their products. However, I’m not sure if I can go 100% with Kydex on all my gear. Kydex holster, Kydex knife sheath, and Kydex mag holders all the way around would make one look like a Tupperware soldier. I need something soft every now and then to break up the monotony. IMHO.
OK, I hate to sound like a fanboi’s, but how did you get the BCM logos on your aluminum mags? I know they don’t come that way from BCM (or at least they didn’t).
As for the Sorpion – Looks like a soundly engineered piece of kit. Just the thing I’ve been looking for, perhaps. Especially since I’ve grown tired of the nylon pouches, and the new kydex ones just don’t appeal to me.
The Scorpion, however, seems to go above & beyond in its design parameters – so long as, as was mentioned before, they don’t rattle. Noise in the night – or anytime for that matter – can spell your death knell.
