While many will debate the need for a dust cover, I find it a necessity for a fighting rifle. Over the years I’ve asked several friends in the AR business why no one has done anything with the dust cover. The answer has basically been that it’s a commodity part and there’s no upside to changing it. Although rare, I’ve seen a few ideas come out over the years and this time, Leitner Wise has taken a stab at it.
Manufactured from a single billet of aluminum, this dust cover is machined with inset edges so that it will fully seal the ejection port.

V7 Weapon Systems was already doing this for a while now. It’s not the same designs, but they’ve been using billet aluminum for their light weight port door. V7 managed to shave some weight off it by eliminating that wedge on the front side as well.

This is not the same. They have no internal seal on the inside.
Its about as worthless a product for the AR/M4 as I have ever seen. An “Improved” dust cover?
Worthless? this is a well thought out design we came up with.
Well, when you can pretty much “enhance” every single part of an AR I see a market for this. For the guy who doesn’t want a single “stock” item and will buy noveske take downs and kns pins to go with his giessele trigger, the only option for dust covers have been steel GI maybe engraved with some “Murcia” shit or the plastic ones, this may be a decent option. Or if building an upper from scratch, or needing to replace door, why not spend the few bucks for billet? Now I wouldn’t tear down my upper just to put one on, but if my upper was coming apart for some reason, then why not…
