Um…..why no webby site? I know they have a “coming soon” page but come on how long has that been out there?

Notice in parenthesis “(REALLY)” on that page?

Interesting looking design but I can’t help but to wonder how well it will work given the extreme angle of the cutting edge. It looks like it work fairly against a man in plate armor but I’m not so sure that it would work as well as a conventional hawk against an unarmored person. No doubt that it will hurt to get hit by this axe but it seems to be more of a piece than a cutter but the blade tip seems too short to go in very deep, I suppose that if you do a draw cut it could work pretty well but how easy would it be to do a draw cut with it?

When I think of utilitarian Salient isn’t the first company that comes to mind. Can’t wait to see what the buy-in on this is.

When it comes to ‘hawks I turn to the firefighters – they have the experience in light breaching and stuff that hawks have the most utility at. I don’t see this hanging off a bunker coat.

So many axe designs (and even knives for that matter) I see always strike me as being more about the looking nifty factor, more than the practical use factor.

Maybe I’m not the demographic they’re after, but even if I was, I think I would still go for an axe that I can use to chop down a tree, split kindling, knock a hole through the ice to get water, process game, clean a hide, pound stakes, etc, etc. – oh and if need be, use as a weapon. Some of these designs strike me as being good only as a weapon.

I think that’s the intent of these ‘hawks, they’re designed to be more of a weapon than a utility tool. It’s not like this is really a new concept, it’s an old idea that’s come back into vogue, just think of lf all of the battle axes from the middle ages, those were never designed to chop wood either, they’re only good for one thing and that’s chopping people.
