Liquid HELLFIRE

Liquid’s HELLFIRE ballistic eyewear uses photo chromic lenses that transition from 84% clear at night to 17% dark during the day and these lenses meet and exceed ANSI-Z87.1-2010 for impact resistance and optical clarity.

The frames are made from aircraft aluminum and use a hingeless design that insures proper fit for any face even while wearing a helmet and hearing protection. This same frame can be custom formed by the wearer to fit almost any head size and will outlast glasses that use traditional hinges. Liquid can also produce these for prescriptions as well as UV or polarized lenses for both the Gasket and Player commercial line of sunglasses in non tactical colors. All of Liquid’s aluminum products are made in the USA and come with a 1 year manufactures warranty.

Any word on whether or they’re on the APEL?

  2. I says:

I would be interested to know how fast they transition, for instance, you patrol up to a building in the bright sun, then have to run into a dark room inside- will you have to rip the glasses off to see?

  3. Enki says:

Seems like there would only be 1% difference between 84% clear and 17% dark…

  4. Marmatt says:

Both are percentage VLT, visible light transmission. Lower number, less light through.

    I like his T-shirt.

ive been looking for something like this, it sucks to have to pull off your eye pro and switch to clear lens when going from daylight to dark unlit room clearing. my question is how dark do these get and how quick is the transition?

  7. ParatrooperJJ says:

The point that Enki was trying to make is the following:

    84% clear = 16% dark

    83% clear = 17% dark

I don’t think the author meant that they only change by 1%?

Apel: Liquid is trying to get on the Apel but we don’t have enough guys from military requesting the product.

Transition speed: These are not battery operated so they take time to change from light to dark. I would say they take a full minute to darken in the sun and a minute to go completely 84% clear. They do start lightning as soon as the sun goes away.

The Army is trying to develop a process that will result in more types of eyewear having to opportunity to be certified for the APEL.

Transition lenses have a range of change, which the Hellfire has the most. Think of it this way when you have nothing on your eyes, you have 100% light passing through. When you put a lens in front of your eyes you are blocking light. The Hellfire will darken to 17% when in direct sun light and will turn clear to 84% without UV Sun-light.

Understand that the lower the number like limo tint is 5%, the darker the lens will be. O% percent (pitch black) would mean you could not see through it and as the number gets higher, things get clear to see. The average sunglasses are about 15% and illegal sunglasses according to the department of safety is 8%. This is called cetegory 4 if your interested.

I also would like to see them on the APEL. I had PRK in 03 but it didn’t 100% work and I’m still stuck with prescription. It sucks being over here with glasses every trip. I have had some prescription Oakleys and it’s time to replace them. Do you know if these are compatible with the foam for freefall?
