Any idea of the year taken? If its M60E3 then it has to be post-1986 or so?
Wow, that is incredible. He is wearing woodland camo from the looks of it, so it must be some time in the late 80s or very early 90s. This is quite an amazing photo.
This setup is not new. I recall reading in some war memoir of similar systems being built by SEALs in the late 60s in Vietnam, using the flexible feed guides from OV-10 Broncos.
Nice photo. Yes, back in Vietnam China Lake developed a rig that included a chopped down m60 fed from an ammo chute connected onto a helicopter ammo box mounted on an alice pack frame. If you google images China lake m60 there are 2 good pics of it. I also remember seeing a clip from a Vietnam river ambush where a SEAL had an M60 fed with an ammo chute going into an alice type pack.
I think this is what Ghost 1213 is talking about.

Its not a new concept.
Thats it exactly. Thanks for adding the link Matt
Wow! Makes me wonder what other military technologies have been lost and have yet to be “invented”.
Thanks for the find Matt. Is that a Government photo?
That actually looks a little bit like the Governor himself. I wonder if he used his operational experience to influence the movie.
I miss “The pig”. Used it for years, until the 249 took over (& before the 240).
Just being back the M63 SWS. My favorite weapon ever, and never got to use it in the military.
When I heard the USN torched thousands in the 80s,(or was it early 90s?) I was devastated.
APG still has a nice setup of the M63 in each variation.
What’s old is new again . . .
Here is another link or a similar system:

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with M60s with the butt removed and no sight like this? Have seen it a few times but never understood the point, is it designed only for hip firing?
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Soviets had their own variation with the PK.
What was that about the US military copying TYR’s MICO again?
The removal of the buttstock and flash hider and shortening of the barrel was for reducing weight. The gun would then be hip fired and the operator would be able to carry more ammo.
